Try making up a weak salt (NaCl) solution. If that tastes good it

means that you need more sodium. Try making up a weak salt substitute

solution (KCl). If that tastes good it means that you need more

potassium.

It's the sodium that I need the most. I found something in an old med

text that says that people with 's need 5 - 20 g salt per day

(that's a lot, people on florinef might not need that much).

I find that I can cut the brain fog by drinking electrolytes every

day. Salt and salt substitute are one way. Alka Seltzer gold is

another way. I have been making up my own mix with baking soda, salt

substitute, and citric acid. I have to drink it every day. I also

found something called 'pocari sweat', a canned electrolyte drink from

Japan (in oriental shops). (That is to take when I am out, for when I

get brain fog while driving :)

You are already doing a lot to remind yourself. Maybe

you need to get more in the habit of thinking about it

frequently through the day - what time is it, when do

I need to take my next dose, where will I be and what

will I be doing when it's time for that dose (to the

best of your ability to predict).

Maybe put a little note or sticker on your phone to

remind yourself to think about dose time before you

make or answer a call.

You could keep a large pill box in a pocket - large,

so you are aware of it and feel the bulk frequently, so

it will remind you to think about when your dose is due.

Another idea would be to set one timer to beep every

hour, so if you do miss a dose, you'd be reminded an

hour later and that might remind you. And the extra

beeps would just remind you to think about it and

say to yourself " let's see, this is the first hour

since my last dose, I need to take again in two hours " .

I guess I've gotten used to thinking of it so often

between doses that, even if I forget a dose, I think

of it within an hour or so and can still take it.

The problem is it isn'tn working, because I forget to

set the reminders or take them with me :( I am so

upset about this!

Okay. That is a good suggestion too; the hard part is

that then I really wouldn't be able to get anything

else done (if I just had to watch the clock for the

pill). I am pretty much able to think of one thing

at a time!!!!

I just feel SO stupid -- your ideas sound really good

(like logical and stuff) it is just SO hard for me to

remember, especially if I get doing something else. It

would basically mean I would have to CONSTANTLY think

" DMSA, DMSA, DMSA " over and over in my head.

This is so discouraging - it doesn't seem like

everyone else has so much trouble jsut reembering to

take the pill!!!

I do have my watch alarm set to this, the problem I'm

having is it is NOT loud and aparently I dont hear it

when I have my coat on over it. Also, sometimes I dont

even NOTICE it because it just softly goes " beep

beep " .

I wish there was something that went " crash, bang,

crash>....etc " over and over very loudly. I can't

figure out what to do because any alarm clocks I know

of just have 1 or at most 2 alarms. Plus only the

" plug in " kind keep going till you turn them off. Not

that it would really be that much easier to carry

around an alarm clock, I'd probably jsut forget it

too!!!

I am thinking about maybe getting 6 alarm clocks and

setting 2 each to these times (that I would always be

asleep)

midnight

3am

6am

Don't know if that is overkill or not but at least

that way I won't have to keep re-doing in the middle

of the night...

But I can't think of what to do during the day.

Any ideas on what to do with that invisible clock

http://www.invisibleclock.com/

(I have an older version but similar)

I had been cliping it to my waistband; but took it off

(like to sleep or something). Anywhere to just attach

it to me so I stop forgetting it? I was thinking of

cliping it to my sock, but not sure that it would

stay.

:(

I am getting really discouraged at this. I really want

to do the DMSA chelation, but doesn't seem like it is

really possible to do safely if I can't come up with

something to remind me to take the doses, and don't

remember them otherwise.

??????????? Don't understand this. I thought you only

had 10 minute leeway either way on a 3 hour schedule.

I remembered 40 minutes late so by your schedule could

have still done it. So what is the " cutoff

time " ......

Salt right out of the shaker tastes WONDERFUL to me :)

Hmmmm will have to get some; I dont have any.

Oh wow, I wonder how much that is like in teaspoons.

Oh, okay. I had gotten some when you mentioned it

before. How many did you do per day?

Where do you get citric acid?

Thanks for the electrolyte ideas. That might help too.

I had been getting REALLY bad leg cramps (and not just

usual muscle spasms but really hurts!!!) Could that

mean too that I need more of the electrolytes??? Any

other " reason " for this....

Any other ideas for being able to remember to take the

DMSA?

I'm sorry I wasn't very helpful about how to remember to take

your dose. The only other thing I can think of is - aren't

there phone services that provide " wake-up calls " ? I don't

know anything about this, but if you can find a service like

this who would call you during the day at dose times, that

might help. If you always have your phone with you, this

would be an additional reminder. Just a thought.

Also, yes, I think you can take a dose up to an hour late.

That is the rule that I think Andy has stated. You don't

want to do this too often, so you still want to aim for

the proper time.

, sorry you've been having trouble remembering your dose. Hopefully,

as it

becomes more routine, it will be easier.

I've been using my cell phone as an alarm. I don't talk on it very often, the

alarm is easy to

set, and it's fairly easy to remember to carry my phone with me. I try to get

in the habit of

turning the alarm off, taking my pill, then resetting the alarm to the next

time.

I also have a basket sitting on the kitchen counter with the pill boxes in it,

and the water

bottles for the kids & I. That's a visual reminder that is helpful.

I also found a small kitchen timer on Amazon.com for about 15 bucks. It can be

set for

hours, comes with a magnet and also a string to hang on your neck. It's loud!

The doses I have the hardest time with are the ones I take at work. I work in a

loud, busy

restaurant and sometimes I can barely hear the alarm on my watch. Also, my

watch alarm

will only sound for so many seconds and then it is done. I have to enlist the

help of

coworkers and write myself reminder notes so I don't forget a dose. It's not

possible to

set my cell phone to vibrate alarm only; that would be good if I could.

Good luck, and keep trying things out.

Its not your fault, you had some really good ideas on

thinking it through. I jsut wish it wasn't so hard for

me.

Interesting thought on the " wake up calls " I had never

heard of that, I will have to check into it. Good

idea!

I am going to try to use your idea about " thinking it

through " too. Maybe with ALL these ideas something

will work!

Here's an idea that shows you how much of a geek I am:

Most computers have a utility that allows you to schedule " tasks " (on

UNIX machines, it's called " cron " ). Most computers also allow you to

send faxes. Combine the two and you have an automated scheduled phone

dialer (you can send yourself a one page " junk fax " ).

Just a thought.

I take my invisible clock out of the clear plastic holder and keep it

in my pocket. I leave it in beep mode during the day. At night I

strap it to my arm and put it in vibrate mode. At night I also wear a

vibrating watch, which unfortunately only has two alarm settings. I

take a dose at 11pm, go to bed, have the watch and the invisible clock

set for 2am and 5am, and then just the invisible clock for 8am. My

invisible clock handles 9 alarms per 24 hours (maybe 1 more, I've

forgotten.)

With this method I just leave the alarms set at the same times and

never change them. In other words, this works well enough that I

don't get my doses late, so re-setting the timer is not necessary.

Maybe more calcium and/or magnesium?

My memory is worse than yours, believe me! The thing is that since I

have been taking electrolytes I actually remember the odd thing!

I have a pill minder box that I lay out all the ALA for a 3 day round

and I have each compartment marked with the time. I have another

container for the DMPS. I just have to look at the boxes, and the

time and I know if I missed a dose ,and when the next dose is. If the

next dose is less than 2 h away, I set a count down timer (I have them

everywhere). I keep going if I have only missed the dose by an hour,

and I have only done that a couple of times.

I get someone to wake me for the 1 am dose. I have 2 alarms, one for

the 4 am dose and one for the 7 am dose. So far so good. By the end

of 3 days I have reached my limit.

Hope that there is something in this that helps.

My problem is a little different, but maybe something in it will spark

an idea that will help somebody.

I used to often sleep through the alarm I had set at nightat night, and

so I hooked up a brignt light right by my beside to the same timer that

I had the radio set to, and bingo. The blast of light along with the

loud radio wakes me up every time whereas, jsut the radio alarm would

not do it.
