Hi Ken!

Congratulations on your date! Barring any complications that would keep

you there longer, you will be in San Diego for 1 week. They fly you down

the day before your surgery in the morning and you have the pre-op class

in the afternoon (patients only, so your family will have to fend for themselves

for a few hours). You check into the hospital the day of your surgery and

will be there 3 nights and released on the 4th day (again, assuming you are

complication-free). Then you stick around for a few days, have your 1-week

post-op appt at PB, and go home that afternoon. I went down on a Thursday,

checked into the hospital Friday, got out Monday, and went home Thursday.

Let me just say that this is how it was in March 2003 - I do not think that

they have changed their procedure regarding this too much in the past year,

but anything is possible!!

Hugs,

Jen

start to surgery. I am looking for some details as to how long I

should plan on being in Dan Diego. I go down on Tuesday for the preop

class and surgery on Wed. I need to make reservation for my family

that is going with me and I am unsure how long to reserve a room for.

Hi Ken,

I just got back from San Diego last week. I had my surgery on 2/6. I

arrived in SD on 2/5. I was in the hospital from 2/6-2/9. Stayed in

hotel from 2/9-2/11. I went home 2/11 in evening, a day earlier than

expected...was scheduled to say at hotel until 2/12. I had my first

post-op appt with Dr. on 2/11 and she released me and said I

could stay the extra day and site-see, but my hubby and I decieded to

go home...we missed our son.

PB/Kaiser will only pay for hotel when YOU are there. My hubby had to

pay for hotel for 3 nights (2/6-2/8). He was able to stay at the

same hotel and same room when I was not there. We stayed at the

Sommerset Hotel. It's very nice and everyone is nice too...especially

Martha in the cafe. She has sf popcicles and broth for surgery

patients.

PB should have sent you an itinerary (can't find mine right now)with

airline info and hotel info (all on same sheet). Look under the hotel

info. It should state the days that YOU will be in the hotel.

You might want to call the hotel right away and make those

arrangement for your support person.

Hope this helps!

I should note that the reason why I got to go home a day early was

because my surgeon (and i think all the surgeons) was taking a day

off. So, all the 11 people that had surgery the same day I did, had

our post op visit on Wednesday instead of the scheduled Thursday. We

were able to go home Wednesday or stay the extra night.

Yep! That's true! Hubby paid $89/night.
