Guest guest
Laurie, Did you already say she's on a blood pressure medicine like Florinef or Proamitine (sp?)? Even if she is, it sounds like she needs something more to help keep her bp up. Have you tried keeping her legs elevated while she's eating? I'd just be worried about lying her back so soon after eating since many MSAers have swallowing problems and/or reflux. Just my two cents, Rose ----Original Message Follows---- Everytime she eats, she has to be layed back immediately or she passes out. She has had awful blood pressure problems. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
Rose, Yes she is on Flourinuf. There are days where she is in bed all day because her blood pressure is so low, (ex. 60 over 37) for the whole day. Even if she sits in her wheelchair too long, she passes out. She has a strap that goes across her chest to keep her up. Does anyone else have problems like this? If she has her legs elevated while she eats, she chokes. Thanks Rose. Guest guest
Laurie, Have you added salt to her diet? We make sure Charlotte gets more than 4000 mg per day, or twice what a normal person needs. I think some patients use as much as 6000 mg per day. You do have to watch her blood chemistry for low potassium however. The florinef works best with more salt. Take care, Bill and Charlotte Laurieb9@... wrote:
Guest guest
Rose and Laurie: We have found that the best way to keep Ken from passing out after eating is to make him eat in his wheelchair and not let him try to stand for about a half hour after eating. He used to have a great drop after meals, but now, we just wheel him away, and let his system digest and the drop rarely occurs. Guest guest
Laurie: Many people on this list take both Florinef and Proamatine. Have you asked the doctor about using both together? Ken took Florinef and salt for several years, but it didn't do the job after a while, and he now takes both. Also, remember that Florinef needs much liquid and much salt to work at all.
