Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date. I am just one week

out from having open surgery on 3/30/04 and I hope that your

experience will be as good as mine has been for me thus far. I'll

share with you what everyone shared with me before I joined

the " losing " side: walk as much as you can after surgery. I was on

a four hour rotation, but I had a hard time staying in bed, so I was

up and walking almost every two hours. In the middle of the night,

the nurses thought I was crazy, but it really helps with the

healing. Also, don't be afraid to use your pain meds. Silly me, I

thought that the pain meds were flowing through the IV on a regular

basis and if I needed an extra boost, I could press the little

button. Wrong! Luckily, my pain levels were low, so I ended up

using the pain meds only five to six times until they told me that I

needed to press to button to get the meds! If you do have problems

with nausea, don't hesitate to tell the nurse. They have meds for the

nausea too. Oh yeah! This is my little tip that I learned the hard

way...The ice chips are great when you finally get them, but you can

only have two every fifteen minutes otherwise, you'll put more ice

chips than your new pouch can handle and you might get nauseaus

(sp??) and foam. Yuk! After I learned the 15 minute rule,

everything was fine. Good luck, girl and we'll be praying for you.
