Guest guest
Hi Tami, My hair doesn't fall out in clumps when I brush it, but there are alot of hair strands in the brush when I'm done. Every time I wash my hair, a handful comes out. There was a ball of it almost as big as a tennis ball when I washed it last night. I've talked to my doctors about it, even took it and let them see how much comes out. They were really surprised, but shrugged it off. They said it could be a hormone imbalance, lack of vitamins, some of the meds I'm on, or all of the above. They really didn't think it was a big deal. Guest guest
This is interesting. My hair has been falling out in clumps especially when I wash it. I have been wondering why and was about to tell my doc. I color my hair and of course take all those medications. Somehow I think that it is due to stress maybe. I signed on and low and behold, someone else is asking about it. . > anyone have a problem with this? Guest guest
Hello all! I'm glad to finally be joining such a needed support group, I have needed it, and I haven't done a good job of " getting to it " on my list of to do's! My name is Kathy, I live in central Oregon and have been Dx'd with FM for 4 years now. I know I have had it much longer. I am married (for 6 years now), have 1 puppy (wow is HE a handful - not keepin up very well with him!!!!), 4 cats and 4 parrots (and a few cockatiels and 2 lovebirds at home). I also own some birds in an aviary in Wyoming. As for the hair thing, I know I am jumpin in with no prior knowledge of either of you, but was trained as a Medical Assistant many years ago. Hair falling out can be a sign of Hypothyroidism and/or hormone imbalances. I would get this checked out ASAP! It is very important that you get this evaluated, because hormone imbalances make everything else feel worse and is not good for your body. I am not CURRENTLY licensed and this is only an opinion - not legal medical advice (was that a good enough disclaimer or what? LOL) This happened to me in my early to mid 20's. I am now 36. I am fortunate enough to be on SS disability - but I got lucky (as far as many other people I have met/meet) to get it on my first shot at the hearing level. THANK GOD for that Judge!!!! I would not call my Rheumy a particarly supportive Doc.. but I don't have a whole lot of selection here... and aside from time to time coming out of his office in tears (and I NEVER cry - but he tends to try and make me feel like dirt), he is helping me with my pain and so far the benefits have outweighed the emotional trauma he tries to induce (I know that is ME too! I need to quit letting him get to me). I see some others on this list have birds too! How cool Aren't they great company? Provide lots of laughter, even when I don't feel a whole lot like laughing. Alot to keep up with on those rough days, but they are worth every ounce of effort I give - they give 10 times back I have 1 Yellow Naped Amazon (female), 2 Magna Double Yellow Headed Amazons (1 male and 1 female as pets), and 1 Senegal (male). Anyway, I hope this is a help to those I answered, and if not I apologize for butting in! I am looking forward to some great stories, some laughter and the ability to whine once in a while <grin>. Gentle Hugs, Jacqui Don't you just love it when Drs. act like this?? Ok, maybe it's not fatal or going to do anything of great harm to you, but that's not the point! The point is, it's not normal, it (maybe) bothers you, and they should figure out what it is. I had a physician's assistant do the same thing to me about the ridges in my nails. Ok, again, not a major problem, but why were they forming, and what could I try to stop it? She didn't care, just said " oh, that could be a lot of things " , and that was that. Now, it wasn't horribly upsetting to me, so I didn't try to pursue it, except I did talk to my pharmacist who gave me a few ides, but what if had been something that I should be correcting even if it was minor?? Guest guest
<<They really didn't think it was a big deal.>> Those doctors would think it was a big deal if their hair started falling out! Guest guest
Tammy, I'm having a terrible time with my hair falling out. When I shower in comes out in clumps. It really is starting to worry me. Thank God I have a lot of hair. I wonder if it's from the fibro or what? I also have noticed it's very dry and frizzy I have attributed it to be caused by the medication I really don't know what else to blame it on. If anyone else has any answers or suggestions I would love to hear them.
Guest guest
Jazzy, Due to some weird Yahoo snafu, I have not gotten all the posts...so I could be going out on a limb with my reply. But, I will try... I go through phases of hair loss due to stress. Either my hair breaks mid-strand, or it will just fall out all together. It's kind of my last ditch warning that I am heading for a break-down. Are you experiencing any extraordinary levels of stress?? (aside from living with FMS). Hope you can resolve this soon. Peace, ===== This is how I can be a single, stay-at-home mom and still afford to homeschool... http://www.themomteam.com/cgi-bin/mom.cgi?id=sa10576 & action=show __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I go into the hospital for 9 trigger point injections a month. about 2-3 weeks after these injections, I shed like a sheep dog! The docs tell me that it is because of the anestesia and the meds that I take! Missy

Guest guest
Jazzy, For what this might be worth. I am in constat stress. I have baby fine hair and if nay of it started to fall out I would know in a New York minute. So far, I have not had any fall out. The guy that cuts my hair has commented on the fact that it is growing faster and seem to be a tad thicker. Guest guest
Tami: It is possibly the Wellbutrin. However, my hair has been thinning gradually since the late 1980's. In 1999, my hair was so long that it almost reached my waist. I was so ill at the time I could no longer manage it so I cut it all off. Besides, a beautician told me I was losing a lot of my hair due to the weight from it being so long. Does this make sense? Guest guest
Kathy & Zoo: Thank you SO much for sharing that bit of info! One of the tests my Dr. is going to re-order is a 24 hour Urine catch to get an idea of what my levels are. I'm in FL right now trying to help my daughter and so far I think I've caused her more worry than anything. I had something physical happen to me Friday that was VERY different and quite strange. She was very concerned and I hate it when things like this happen! Thank you for your input Kathy. I promise not to file Malpractice charges. Hahaha! Guest guest
Do you take Wellbutrin also? No, that is one medication that I have missed. I am however going to stop taking Topamax. It causes my nose to get all stuffy. I couldn't figure out what was causing it until I forgot to take one in the morning and not stuffy nose. Took one in afternoon and there came the stuffy nose. That I can do without. Enough without adding more. Take care, Irene Co-Moderator
Guest guest
Very interesting question! I'm not taking Wellbutrin but am supposed to start it just haven't filled the prescription yet. But someone mentioned Topamax and that I am taking for my Migraines is that what you are taking them for? I am on 250 mgs. a day. I wonder if that's what's causing my hair to fall out because I sure do think it's causing vision problems with me. I have been on it for about a year and a half. Let me know what you think or what other problems you have found being on it. I do get the stuffy nose with it but also other problems, you can email me to if you'd like,
Guest guest
I get a stuffy nose with it too but my hair is not falling out and I am sensitive to just about any medication coming and going. I would think by now you would know if it was causing your hair to fall out. Take care, Irene >
