Hello,

This is Michel from Quebec.. Hope you are all doing well. I would

like to start chelating very soon.. the MD called me this week to

give me the results of my blood test.. he said according to the test

(regular MD one!) Liver and Kindneys functions are OK..

He said ALT is : 17 (Liver) and Creatinine is: 72 (Kidney)... i

didn't have a chance to do the other tests recommended like plasma

cisteine, etc.. but i feel like starting chelation..

Where can I get the products needed to start in Canada? Do i need a

prescription or not? Sould i start with DMSA and ALA... which dose do

you recommend? and what are the advantages / drawbacks to go with

DMSA or DMPS? I have Andy's books, so feel free to refer me to them

if you feel like..

I am sorry to ask basic and redundant questions but i don't want to

mess things up and would like to start slowly and see what happens.

Right now I've been taking the following supplements for more than 2

months:

* Calcium / Magnesium: 500 mg

* Vitamin D3 : 3000 iu.

* Vitamin C: 3 gr.

* Vitamin B complex: 100 mg (2 times 50 mg)

* Vitamin B12: 1000 - 5000 mcg

* Milk thisle: 250 mg ( 1 to 3 times a day)

* plus probiotics and digestive enzymes

* I am aiming at starting LDN very soon also...

Should I keep on like this or increase some doses? Am I missing

something important? Your suggestions and comments are greatly

appreciated...

Have a good day or evening everyone !

Michel

Michel,

We have to have a prescription for oral DMPS in Canada and in the US.

THere is a pharmacy in Toronto that I know about that compounds it

('s pharmacy).

I got my DMSA from a doctor in Calgary. I asked on the autism mercury

site and was told that we have to have a doctor to get DMSA in Canada,

or order it through the US. (See autism mercury post no. 164334).

Try VRP (or other sources in the files, links or Moria's website). If

you do order it, try to get small doses like 25-50 mg to start. These

can very easily be split to smaller doses. It would be good to start

at about 12.5 mg at first.

If you are concerned about customs, phone them, or ask a US friend to

mail it to you as a gift.

Alpha lipoic acid we can buy in health food stores and even grocery

stores. Look for small doses and 'reputable' companies. I started a

t a dose of 5 mg. Many try 10-12.5 mg at first. Don't buy R-ALA.

More later....

The recommendation is to start with only one chelator at time (in case you do

not tolerate

one). ALA cannot be used if you've been exposed to mercury recently (in the

last 3-4

months, ex: amalgam removal). Also, you're amalgam-free Michel?

You'll find some answers comparing chelation agents here at Moria's site, as

well as

dosage recommendations. Many people on this list suggest starting very low, ex:

12.5 mg

of a chelator.

In Amalgam Illness, pg. 133-134 you can look over the supplement

recommendations.

Consider adding zinc, molybdenum, vitamin E, more antioxidants (more Vit. C

and/or a

carotenoid complex), more Mg.

At Moria's site you can skim the Andy Index looking for posts on supplements. I

found

that very helpful.

I got another message in the autism mercury group (post no. 164404).

Apparently DMSA can be purchased over the counter from Village

pharmacy (in Ontario?) and they will mail anywhere in Canada if the

order is over 30.00.

Xena also mentioned a source of supplements in Canada:

www.feelgoodnatural.com

I still want to respond to your other questions, but I don't get very

much computer time these days. Hopefully I will remember next week

(when the teenagers go back to school).

Hi Michel,

I think that many of your questions have been answered. Just a couple

more comments:

>and what are the advantages / drawbacks to go with

> DMSA or DMPS?

DMSA - dosed every 4 h or more frequently, good for lead

DMPS - more expensive than DMSA, has to have a prescription, many

people report that it is very good for managing side effects, good for

arsenic, dosed every 8 h or more frequently which can be a great

advantage for someone like me who has significant end of round

symptoms (because I don't have to wake up at night to take DMPS I can

do long rounds).

> Right now I've been taking the following supplements for more than >2

> months:

>

> * Calcium / Magnesium: 500 mg

Need more magnesium. What form are you using? It helps to divide the

magnesium in four doses or so over the day.

> * Vitamin D3 : 3000 iu.

Have you tested 25(OH) vitamin D? Some people have gone over the

recommended range when taking similiar amounts in the long term (I

have been taking about 2500 iu for maybe 6 years and was still below

100 nmol/L on the last test)

> * Vitamin C: 3 gr.

More would be good, spread out over the day.

> * Vitamin B complex: 100 mg (2 times 50 mg)

Would be good to increase to 4 times per day

> * Vitamin B12: 1000 - 5000 mcg

I would add:

- a source of omega 3. 1-2 T cod liver oil would give omega 3,

vitamin A, and vitamin D all at the same time. Nordic naturals seems

to be reputable

- lecithin

- vitamin e

- coenzyme q10, whatever you can afford

- inositol

- zinc

- molybdenum

- folic acid

- extra B6

- taurine

See pages 133-134 of Amalgam Illness.

Other supplements may be added in future if needed. A person really

has to study the book and match symptoms to supplements. For example,

there are supplements that are precursors to brain chemicals that may

or may not be needed.

If I remember from your hair test there was some indication of

possible thyroid problem?? It would be good to see if you can get the

doctor to do free T3 and free T4 tests and post the results here.

Hi ,

Hope you are doing very well and everyone in this group... and thanks

for your answer.. Here are some more details about my supplements;

* I am using a NATURAL FACTORS supplement of Calcium/Magnesium; each

tablet contains: Elemental Calcium Citrate: 250 mg, elemental

magnesium (citrate/oxide) 250 mg, elemental potassium citrate: 20 mg,

elemental zinc citrate: 5 mg, elemental manganese citrate: 1 mg,

vitamin D3: 100 iu and silica: 5 mg. (Now i started taking THREE

tablets a day, after hearing your advice and 's)

* I just got my results for 25(OH) vitamin D: it is 74 nanomol.. so i

guess i should keep with high doses of vitamin D...

* Source of Omega-3: Cod liver oil is out of question for me! As you

know I am a strict Vegetarian (VEGAN).. So I am getting hemp seed

everyday in my morning Green Smoothy.. Flax seed in my seed milk (2-3

times a week) and occasionally flax seed oil. But maybe i should have

borage oil or flax seed oil every day? what do you think?

* Regarding the other supplements you recommend:

- Lecithin and vitamin E: yes.. I've been thinking of adding these

two very soon! thanks.. (is it ok to have soy lecithin.. because of

the Best Bet Diet!?)

- Zinc: I am already taking 15 mg of Zinc with my Calcium/magnesium..

is this not enough?

- Folic Acid: everytime I do a blood test: Folic Acid comes higher

than the average.. this last time it came at: 33,6 (last month)

- B6 (the B-50 complex from Solgar has some).. is it not enough?

I guess Taurine to help the liver.. I'll try to add it.. and I will

check Andy's book also..

the News for me is that I got my first LDN prescription!!! I will be

starting this week-end.. so I feel like waiting with chelation for a

few weeks as I don't want to introduce everything at the same time..

in order to know what is working and what is not... Also I need to

wait a couple of weeks before approaching the MD about my free T3 and

free T4 tests... I am thankful he prescribed the LDN after

hesitation.. (so I have to " present " him one difficulty at a

time..).. But the battle continues...

Sorry for the long e-mail.. but I am so thankful to you for your time

and patience...

Just my opinion...I don't use soy much at all and I don't give it to my boys at

all. Too much natural estrogens for me to be comfortable with. There has been

some pretty negative press on soy recently. We were also talking not too long

ago on one group about some soy products being soaked in a solution containing

aluminum prior to processing. Lecithin is really important but we are going to

use a soy free version.

Again, just my opinion!

Wish you well with chelation, I have two teeth that need attention first then

it is my turn!!!

- Lecithin and vitamin E: yes.. I've been thinking of adding these

two very soon! thanks.. (is it ok to have soy lecithin.. because of

the Best Bet Diet!?)

Another option would be to take this one maybe once per day and get a

separate source of magnesium for the other 2 or 3 doses. Apparently

Mg is poorly absorbed, that's why it helps to take it frequently, and

it is important for so many enzymes. We seem to need to take lots of

it (increasing gradually).

Yeah, mine's close to that too.

Personally, I don't like borage oil (but Andy would likely not agree

with me on that).

I think it's good to use the hemp seed and flax seed because they can

be stored in the fridge or freezer longer. The oil starts to degrade

quite quickly. As long as you are getting omega 3 every day.

Soy oil and lecithin don't have any soy protein in them (just the

fat). Ashton says they are ok.

Andy says 50-100 mg per day and he's the one who gets to see lots of

On p 254 of Andy's hair test book he says how to tell if extra B6 is

needed from the ratios Ca/P and Na/Mg.

That's great that you found someone to write the script.

I didn't notice any big deal with LDN, but I continue to take it

because I don't see how it could possibly harm, and just might help!

Yes, out here we are only 'allowed' one difficulty at a time. I

usually take in 6 or 7.
