Guest guest
Hi Liz, I have scleroderma and had a renal crisis which has left me with some kidney impairment. My kidney specialist told me that the only tetracycline which was suitable for me to take was Doxycycline. I think the reson was that Minocycline is excreted by the kidneys and puts a strain on them. Also if you have renal impairment Minocycline will tend to build up in the body. Mason >From: " Liz G. " <pioneer@...> >Reply- " Liz G. Guest guest
Dear experts and group, Does anyone know the answer to the question below about the kidneys? This was posted over in a.s.a under Antibiotic treatment for RA, and I'd like to help her find the answer if I can. Any brave souls care to chip in over there, or answer here or to me in email with references I can tell her about? We've been having some pretty good threads over there about antibiotic treatment lately, though occasionally there is a little fallout from previous personality conflicts. Just wondered if the only abx of choice is minocyclne or can it be any of the tetracyclines? I think I remember my RD saying something about minocycline being hard on the kidneys. But maybe all the tetracyclines are hard on the kidneys.
