Guest guest
Marilyn in Tenn. My husband Ken lost his sense of smell very early in the progression of the disease. Before we really knew what was wrong. We teased him some about it at the time, but finally came to realize he had actually lost his sense of smell, and as far as I know it never came back. Guest guest
We were sorta of the same way. I can smell mold and mildew a mile away, but he could never smell it. The same thing with a rose or gardenias. Thanks for your reply I am sorry to hear of your loss. You may have mentioned it in previous posts, but sometimes, I am unable to read all messages. I know that we have a tough road ahead of us. Guest guest
Marilyn, On the sense of smell. Did your husband work around degreasing machines in the 50's or early 60's? Auto shops used them a lot and so did many maintenance shops. I also lost my sense of smell and I attribute it to working with with those strong chemicals. I think the smell overpowers everything else and desensitizes your smell to anything less powerful smelling. Guest guest
Dear bill: You may have lost your sense of smell through your work, but loss of sense of smell is one of the common symptoms of Parkinson's disease and Shy-Drager Syndrome. Ken lost his sense of smell earlyon. We were warned that he would not sense smoke and to be aware of that. Barbara
