Hi,

No. The generic for Zantac is " ranitidine " an H2 receptor antagonist (I

checked the box). " Cetirizine " an H1 receptor antagonist is apparently

sold in the US as Zyrtec and in Canada as Reactine. It is however shown

under the name Reactine at http://www.rxmed.com/prescribe.html. Have found

this site useful when researching meds. Was a bit confused when I first

found the urticaria list and people were mentioning Zyrtec. Doctors

recommend taking these two together (Zyrtec (or Reactine)/Zantac) to help

control CU. It works for some and not for others. Seems to depend on the

type of CU.

Hope this helps you sort them out. Bye

I never did lose all the weight. My doctor said Pred changes the metabolism

in some people. I tried for 8 months- I was eating a low fat, low carb diet,

exercising strenuously (averaging about 2 hours of aerobics, walking 5

miles, and lifting weights EVERY DAY) and lost a whole 10 pounds - out of

almost 50 pounds gained over 2 years of being on Pred. And the fat didn't

turn into muscle, either (I know muscle weighs more than fat). I finally

quit when another bout of CU started. I still try to eat healthy, but the

weight won't budge. Maybe someone out there knows a secret around this?? -

Hi Jackie,

I've had the same problem with the weight gain. It is extremely hard to

lose. I don't think people understand this - they think if you eat less

you'll lose weight. But I could be hungry every day and still not lose.

I also agree with you about the hives running their course. I could have

sworn that I found the cure each time my hives stopped but why do I have

them again.
