Ok, First of Im very happy Ive had this surgery. I had open RNY on

August 19th. I started at 315, dropped to 283 due to mandatory 10%

loss and am today at....190(YEAH!!!). Ive lost 125 altogether but

wont hit the century club since surgery until Ive lost 7 more pounds.

Ok, the reason I need to vent is this. Its a good thing Ive been

married to 22.5 years because I would never want some one new to see

me naked !! Thank God for clothes !! I mean Im thankful I lost so

much weight but Im not really thrilled with how the naked body looks.

Anyone else go through that?????

Hi ,

Congrats on that 190. That is so cool.

Boy, do I know what you mean - "Thank God for clothes!" I am more

self-conscious now than when I was larger - at least then I didn't jiggle

as much - well, "jiggle" isn't exactly the right word but I can't think

of one that is right. I am one of those people who carry weight all

over, so as I deflate I'm ending up with loose, wobbly skin all over.

I expected my upper arms to become bat wings, but I wasn't prepared for

what's happening to my forearms. And, it isn't just my body . . .

my face is going south as well. Oh, well . . .

Don't get me wrong, though - I am still very happy that I had WLS.

I just remind myself that I didn't have the surgery to look better, I did

it for health. Of course, once my weight is as low as I can get it,

I'll see what reconstructive surgery we can afford.

All the best,

Kay

I agree with you 100%. I would never change not having the surgery and I was told about hanging skin etc... but no way was I prepared for what it really is like. I love the fact that I can where the size clothes that I am now wearing, BUT!!!!!! Like you I am married (26+ years) and thank God my husband loves me for me and not my body. He just says, don't worry, we can take care of that later when you feel that your where you want to be (don't see a new car in my near future) - till then I will live with sleeves and long pants or long skirts and hopefully the lights out in the bedroom.

The hanging skin is kind of a new topic for me. First, I didn't think I'd

need excess skin removed because I was on the " lighter " side of requiring

this surgery (or so I thought - totally NOT true!). Then, my PCP was completely

100% supportive of me getting the excess skin removed and started talking

about it when I called her from San Diego less than a week after I had my

surgery!! However, here I am, almost 1 year post-op, and it looks like

I don't have enough hanging skin to qualify to have it chopped on Kaiser's

tab. :0( And now I'm really starting to notice things. I notice that

when I do my kickboxing class and we do some jumps, all the excess skin

bounces and really tugs on my shoulders and waist! Also, when I bend over

wearing just a bra (to hold my boobs up a little), it actually looks like

I've got SIX boobs!! I had lap, but the excess stomach flab still seems

to have an imaginary line that causes it to hang weird - it's pretty hard

to describe, but extremely unattractive to look at - even my hubby doesn't

want to see it! Does anyone " in the know " out there think I might be able

to qualify for skin removal if I have these tugs documented? I'm sure that

come summer-time (with the hot weather) I'll start to get rashes under my

apron, and I know my PCP will be completely supportive if I try to push

to get skin removed. Of course, I'm not going to have anything removed

until I lose 23 more pounds (at least), but I want to be prepared as best

I can.

Hugs,

Jen
