Guest guest
Dear Kate, My heart goes out to you. I know how you feel. I am depressed too. My Dr. says talk to an expert. Well, OK. But how can I talk about something when I don't know what it is? It seems as if something stole the " happiness " off my plate. I guess I don't have the energy to pull my bootstraps up and get on with life. Somewhere there is an answer. We have to hang on and keep going. Hang in there girl. There are better days coming. You have known them before and you will know them again. Carolyn in NC

Guest guest
Dear Barb. I think that the meds we take do cause a bout of depression. It is really hard on the people that have never had to deal with depression before. It has thrown me for a flip. But, I know it is not forever. Thanks for the article. Carolyn in NC. Guest guest
Hi Everyone: I removed an article out of a magazine at work the other day and thought I would highlight what it says. The magazine is First for Women (June 21, 1999) and the title of the article is New Evidence - Allergies can cause depression " Scientists now think histamine-the chemical released during an allergy attack-affects brain and nervous-system receptors, " says Firshein, D.O.,author of The Nutraceutical Revolution. He speculates that histamine causes the body to reabsorb its natural " feel good " chemicals before they've had a chance to do their job. The result: a bout of the blues. The article also goes on to say that " he also recommends taking two natural antihistamine and anti-inflammatory agents: 300 mg of quercitin twice daily and 2 x 400 mg capsules of nettles three times daily. (Limit intake of both agents to two months because the long-term effects aren't yet known.) Don't know about the validity of these findings but thought I would pass it on. Barb London, Ontario, Canada May the wind be always at your back. mtnbiker@... mountainbiker41@...

Guest guest
Kate: We are not especially strong, we all have our down days, I'm sure!! Personally, I've gone through difficult times (before the urticaria) in my life, and can relate to your feeling of desperation. What worked for me was some visits with a professional to help get a positive head space, and time. The urticaria can be all-consuming, but remind yourself there are worse things! I find some good old-fashioned 'me' time where I can let it all out(without guilt), is useful. Schedule it into your week if you have to! Give yourself a well-deserved break from the grind of research - a few hours doing something else can be distracting enough to get a fresh perspective and renewed energy. I don't know you, but your words strike a cord for me. It helps me when I remember that fate is 'not' against me, I'm not 'that' significant! So, I try to grab a little 'happy' every day, and schedule weekly 'fun' things. I find if I don't plan it , they won't happen, urticaria or not. Good luck, stiff upper lip and all that! You are not alone!! RE: Over Medicated > Thank you to all of you who replyed to my post. > I am going today to see the dermatologist, and I am feeling very tired and > anxious. Guest guest
Hi, Kate. Welcome to the wonderful world of " this itching is driving me crazy!!!! " I'm one of the " long-timers " (12+ years), and this darned thing still gets me down, sometimes. I find that keeping my mind and hands busy helps a lot. Each time I have a bout of heavy hiving, I find something to distract me - the first time I got into miniatures. I completed an entire n house, furniture and all! I find that having to pay attention to " details " helps (and miniatures required a lot of that). Another time I took art classes and started drawing all the time. This time around, I'm heavily involved in on-line auctions - selling stuff, mainly. The typing keeps my hands busy, and thinking up great descriptions keeps my mind busy. Another thing that helps is looking at people worse off than me. I know how cold that sounds, but it does help. A good friend of mine is in a wheelchair due to an accident, and she taught me that. I have my eyes, my hearing, my hands, and my legs - all in perfect working order. So what if my immune system is a little off-kilter? Most importantly, surround yourself with supportive people - family, friends, even doctors. I've even had to sever relationships when I'm hiving, as much as it hurt, because the attitude I was getting was NOT helping me; if anything it was making things (and me) worse. Nothing helps me more than knowing the love, support, and sympathy that surrounds me is always there to catch to me. I still have days when I just cry and want to lay down and never get back up; we probably all do. Love is strong medicine for whatever ails you, so I try to surround myself with it. Joining this group is a great start. Hope all works out for you. - Jackie ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Guest guest
Hi Kate, Keep your spirits up. The anxiety can be alleviated with Celexa. It's a wonderful serotonin reuptake that works very well with very little sleepiness. Ask your doctor about it! Debbie
Guest guest
I can't remember those of you who asked if I was being treated for my anxiety/depression but, the answer is " yes " and I am on medication and going through therapy too. Thank you all for your concern.. With Hope, Kate
