Fun with No

Dylan was in the bath today. He loves to throw the shampoo bottles, 1/2

full cups, pouring pitcher etc. out of the tub. Usually I just have to take

them out and put them on the counter to avoid a total flood.

Today he went to get a bottle and I said No. He stopped and put the bottle

back. He waited a moment, looked at me then tried again. I signed No.

Again he put the bottle back. Next he tries to gently nudge me away from

the tub. I don¹t move, so he goes back to the bottle, with his sly little

smile. I say no and on the story goes. Finally he gets the bottle, sneaks

it around the far end of the tub, to take it out on the other side of me. I

meet him on that side with No. he laughs and tries to be faster than me on

the other side. Again No. Finally he gets ready to throw it over my head, I

say No. Finished and put the bottle back. By then bath time was over.

He has responded to a signed No before, but having this reciprocal

conversation about it was awesome. Thought you would appreciate the wonder

of this moment.
