Guest guest
, I take garlic daily and horse chestnut because when I was pregnant I had a blood clot from my ankle to my groin, and my father has had trouble with blood clots for 40 yrs. I read the supplement article I shouldn't take garlic. Should I think about not taking the two of these? The horse chestnut has helped with my varicose veins, which are hereditary in my family. Guest guest
Ann, I haven't been reading all posts in order lately, but did you write this before or after posted 's supplement list? SHe posted a hefty list of supplements recommended by someone who has been experimenting with nutritional approaches to thyroid problems for several, if not many, years. believes that nutritional changes can send hyperthyroidism into remission and there are people on the hyperthyroid list that have indeed gone into remission using alternative measures and many, many who used atds and supplements. I'm taking some of the supplements recommended, mostly copper/zinc/selenium/iron. Anyway, please look through 's supplement list and for a full explanation by about his theories, see http://ithyroid.com/ You may need to take that last slash out, not sure. The web site is new and under construction, but he has plenty of prose on his theories, the whole supplement list etc. Next week he'll be adding my story and for those of you who are new, I went into remission without conventional treatment. I developed severe liver disease from the atds and couldn't take them. Since I had been pregnant and/or lactating for four years, I weaned my younger child, went on a macrobiotic diet, began treatment with a homeopath, took herbs, attended to all the possible chakra/emotional issues I could: within two weeks, my blood tests improved enough for the Mayo clinic docs to predict they'd be normal within a few weeks and they were. It took four more months for my TSH to go to a place that was normal for me, 1.2. Anyway, I mention this because I do believe there's room in our individual treatment plans for thoughtfully adding supplements, using alternative medicine, etc. I did all of this with the approval and guidance of an m.d. who monitored my heart rate and had the attitude that nearly a third of people with Graves go into remission spontaneously, why shouldn't we help push this along? Don't take this as advice to trash the ATDs because the only reason I didn't use them was because of my allergy. ATDs were my preference and I'd try them again if necessary. It was surgery (RAI out of question) that I was trying to avoid and I had no options. Guest guest
, Good grief, that is a lot of supplements to read through. I want to try the copper/zinc/selenium/iron . Does all of that come together or separate? I have never heard of taking Copper and have never seen it on the shelves. e Re: When am I going to get better on ATD'S > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi and e, > > > > I agree - any products with caffeine and ephedra are no-no's for > Grave's > > > > patients. Guest guest
I bought a little bottle of it from GMC Nutrition Center. Quite inexpensive. Little pills, too. ~kari >Good grief, that is a lot of supplements to read through. I want to try the copper/zinc/selenium/iron . Does all of that come together or separate? Does all of that come together or separate? > I have never heard of taking Copper and have never seen it on the shelves. After reading through the huge supplement list, I decided to take only the copper, zinc, selenium, and iron since 's theory is that a copper deficiency is a cause of hyperthryoidism. Copper can't be taken without balancing certain other things, including zinc and iron. I've been taking the minimum doses recommended and belive it helps. You have to take each pill separately. Read through the supplement list and just go to the supplements I listed, if you're interested, and check the minimum dose. You might also want to check this out with your doctor. I ran it by my homeopath. In general, I'm highly suspicious of curing disease through nutrition, and think critically about all my treatment options (both allopathic and naturopathic) but the personal testimonials in the hyperthyroid list lead me to believe there is something there about copper and other nutritional complications of or possible causes for Graves. has posted his theories on a new web site: http://ithyroid.com/
Guest guest
Debbie, people were just talking about supplements and I thought that I would reprint the 's list. I am completely ignorant about what supplements we should take but I have an opinion that your father should be taking more than garlic for his condition.
