We live in Arkansas and are still learning the system. I'm not

really sure what services are available. Where can I go to find

more help?

,

I live in Massachusetts and there is a " swap " system based out of one of the

pediatric rehab places. When our PT's need to try something new or we have a

student who has outgrown an appliance (walker, wheelchair, gait trainers, car

seat, etc.) they donate to this agency. It is Friday, as you know, so I can't

find out any more until Monday, but perhaps they know if there is a nationwide

network. I will ask. In the meantime, I wonder if you have a local " UCP "

(United Cerebral Palsy)--they may have or know of a way to get/swap, etc. Also,

I know our PT's are constantly writing letters to Medicaid defining the need for

equipment and that, with an orthopedic's letter will often override the Medicaid

denial.

I will find out what I can when I go back to work on Monday.

This is the info I found for your state:

Sherrill Archer, Part C Coordinator

Arkansas Department of Human Services

Donaghey Plaza North

Slot N503

P.O. Box 1437

Little Rock, AR 72203-1437

Fax:

AltPhone1:

Email: sherrill.archer@...

Website: http://www.state.ar.us/dhs/ddds/FirstConn/index.html

The address in blue came directly from the website listed at the bottom. Does

Libby get services from First Connections? The website includes assistive

technology in its list of services so a gait trainer should be covered under

that category. If Libby is not yet served by the state, let us know so we can

help you get her set up.
