only 2 1/2 more packs of birth control pills until we can start

trying. I told myself starting January 1st I could do a countdown.

Now to really stick to a vitamin, protien and water routine. Right

now I take a multi-vitamin once a day and a iron twice a day. Am I

right in thinking I should add a Folic Acid and a Calcium Citrate to

get my body ready for pregnancy? If so, how much of these two should

I add? I even have DH taking a multi-vitamin finally.

You'll get through those two pack of BCP in no time!

You might want to start taking a Prenatal Vitamin. You can get them OTC or

have your Doc prescribe them. They have the added Folic Acid we need and

you can get them with iron.

I was pretty anal about making sure my vites were right, so I figured out

the amounts in my current multi-vite (yep...listed out each vitamin) and

just made sure that I was between 125% and 150% of the USRDA. Since we

don't know " exactly " how much I malabsorb, I just wanted to make sure.

Watch out on the fat solubles, though. Excesses of those don't " flush " out

of your system.

I bought a vitamin book for maybe 7 or 8 dollars to help me figure out how

much extra I'd need. You GB surgeon's office might be a good resource, too.

Since s/he knows the particulars on how much of your intestines are bypassed

and all.

And, when it comes down to it, just keep an eye on your labs. I'm a big

proponent of getting a copy of the lab report and comparing the exact

numbers. I always go to the same lab...since different labs can have

different " baselines " . I can then watch for " trends " . One time I could be

at the higher end of normal and the next be at the lower end of normal.

Many doctor's offices only look for anything outside of normal. By watching

for trends, I can make adjustments to my vites as needed.
