Guest guest
Hi everyone! I'm new to this group and am currently trying to catch up on back postings. A little background about me. I was diagnosed in August 1997 and had RAI that same month. I was put on PTU and then changed to Tap. I began experiencing TED in Oct. 97, but didn't know what it was. My endo at the time thought it was a sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics when that didn't work she prescribed allergy medication because it looked like my whole head was swelling up. Meanwhile my TSH levels have not bugded. By December of 97 I bottomed out. My heart rate began to drop. I was on 100mg of atenalol and my rate at the office was at least 96. Now it was down to 56. Notified endo of this and asked for blood work to be taken. She didn't seem concerned. I sure was! By that weekend my rate went down to 39. I couldn't move out of a chair. Called endo on a Sunday looking for help. She was on vacation. Again. Seemed like any time I needed her she was on vacation! Doctor on call called me back and said if I get any worse to go to the ER. All I could think was worse than WHAT!!? How low can you go? Monday I was in tears and on the phone with my GP. I need help NOW! I got in to see him and he took me off all medication. My TSH had risen to 2.99 (range .35-5.5) but my FrT4 was .44 (range .89-1.8) The GP said I was doing great because my TSH was smack dab in the middle of normal. I noticed that my total cholesterol count was 300. I pointed this out to him and asked him if that coupled with the FrT4 indicated I was going Hypo? Oh no, thats just from the medication. 14 days later my TSH was 14.0 and FrT4 was 0.00. I kind of figured those zeros weren't too healthy of a number. He freaked and put me on .2mg of Synthroid. You all can probably guess what happened. Zing! Back to being hyper. So... for the past 3 years I've been battling with my ever changing Synthroid levels. My most current results are FrT4 1.53 (range .7-1.4) TSH 2.48 (range .35-5.5) FrT3 2.4 (range 2.1-3.9). I've been having both hyper and hypo systems depending on what day it is! My TSH level is at too high a level for me and the FrT4 seems to indicate that I'm going hyper. The GP seems to think that FrT4 is a useless test and insists the TSH is a more sensitive test. That TSH is the first indicator of something wrong. Well my prior blood tests prove him wrong. His advice was: if you want to lower your dose go ahead. If you want to raise your dose go ahead. I'm just sick of this roller coaster and want off! To make a long story short, have any of you had conflicting blood test results? Do you ignore some of the results some of the time? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom. Vi
