Guest guest
, Speaking of female problems associated with thyroid disease, I had an abnormal pap a couple of months ago. I just kind of assumed that it was because of my Graves Disease. I also haven't had a menstral cycle for the past year and I'm beginning to think that there is something wrong. However, I have read about thyroid problems causing a lack of a menstral cycle. I have been taking methamozle and at first I was hyperactive and now I'm hypoactive and from what I have read, both thyroid states cause a lack of a menstal cycle. I'm going to have RAI in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping that it might return my cycle. Guest guest
Jeannette, Redhen, Elaine, , Wow, among us, if I'm remembering correctly, we each had an ovarian cyst while in the midst of a thyroid imbalance. I am absolutely without a doubt certain that this is all connected -- after all, the thyroid and ovaries are part of the endocrine system. My book " Women's Health Series " (published by Alternative Medicine Magazine) discusses " female " problems ranging from ovarian cysts to yeast infections and at the beginning of the book it has a section called " thyroid primer. " The eds of Alternative Medicine Magazine and the doctors throughout this book believe that the thyroid is part of the reason for much of what ails many, many women. In addition, reading what I did on Thyroid Manager (the online medical text) as well as what I've learned from my naturopath, Dr. Alan Beer's web site, and the list goes on . . . convinces me that the autoimmunity we're struggling with is more extensive than just the thyroid -- or that the thyroid is doing more than normally given credit for. Anyway, the endo didn't call today but I am going to ask about the thymus -- thanks Jeannette. I'm just pulling for straws here, but as I look at what's happened in the past couple of weeks I agree with Elaine, it's all symptoms of either hypothyroidism or a generalized lowered immunity. I'm willing to bet that my body is still in a state of shock and adjusting to the dramatic changes. I have to remind myself that I'm only six weeks into the first non-pregnancy or lactating time since October 1995. That, and my raging thyroid (for probably close to a year), certainly took its toll and perhaps I'm just now feeling it. I wouldn't be suprised if I have hypo symptoms for a while simply because my body's feeling, in a sense, hypo. It may take some time for the body to remember what normal is. I will report what the endo says, as always. Finally, Jeannette -- I too did cod liver oil after I discovered that the cyst had ruptured. I did an hour or so of hot cod oil and ginger packs to help the fluid in my pelvis go wherever it's supposed to. After three nights of the packs my pain was gone. If someone would've told me a year ago -- or even six months ago -- how much TIME I'd be spending thinking about my body or attending to it, I'd have thought " IMPOSSIBLE " who has that sort of time? Now I find I just grade papers while soaking or hot packing or take a pill while making lunch or do yoga in the ten minutes before kids' naptime ends. You just do it. I really appreciate this dialogue and it makes me feel much, much less crazy. I feel sort of odd about the growing list of symptoms and can't imagine going this alone, as so many of you did.
