Pain Breathing

Hi List,

My " Mommy Radar " is on high. Things with are getting weird.

Yesterday was riding bikes with a little neighbor boy. They rode up and

down the hill we live on about 3 times (its pretty steep too). She stopped and

came in complaining that her side hurt. I figured it was just a " stitch " in the

side from exercise. But by bedtime, some 6 hours later she was crying and in

big pain. I gave her Tylenol and a heating pad, and turned on the Mommy radar!

This a.m. she said she was not feeling great, but better than last night. She

wanted to go to school, as she did not want to miss two tests that were

scheduled. She called at 1:00, in pain again. She was almost in tears, and

said her side had started hurting when she tried to play jumprope with the girls

at recess. Again, she did not want to come home, because they had not yet done

the tests. She wanted me to tell the teacher to keep her out of Phys Ed, which

I did.

When I picked her up after school (and she got a 100% on both tests!), she said

the pain was better, but she was freezing cold and had a sore throat. I took

her temperature, and it was 101.7. So, being as it is now late Friday

afternoon, I called her doctor. He says it could be a pulled muscle along with

a cold (Sami had one last weekend), or pneumo-thorax, which is when air gets

underneath the lung and is very painful, or pneumonia. He wants me to up her

prophylactic dose of Bactrim to a full dose, and keep an eye on her. If she

starts breathing fast to call him ASAP.

Why do these things always happen on Fridays?

Hopefully it is just a pulled muscle along with the cold from the baby. But

pleas think good thoughts for her. I am always so tense when she is the least

bit hurting.

Hope your weekends are better than this one has started to be.
