FW: becoming pregnant early post op

I would listen to your doctor. There are reasons they tell us to wait.

First of all, think of all the reasons you had WLS surgery to begin

with. I'm sure it wasn't just to get pregnant and have a baby.

Remember, we only have a " window of opportunity " that lasts

approximately 12-18 months to lose our weight. After that, it is

extremely difficult, if not impossible for most people. If you were to

get pregnant now, or even at 7 months post op and hadn't lost most of

what you wanted to lose...you may be wasting valuable time of when it is

still " easy " to lose weight.

Also, you need to make sure your labs are good; that you are taking in

enough nutrition for YOU before considering getting pregnant. Some

women have difficulty taking in enough food for 1 let alone 2. I'm sure

you want to give your baby the best start in life possible.

You may be looking and feeling so much better now than before surgery,

and your hubby may agree. However, are you satisfied where you are at

now? Is this where you would be happy the rest of your life? If not,

then why not take advantage of the time you have left in your " window "

to lose some more weight, exercise, solidify your eating habits, and

work on you before taking on getting pregnant.

I don't mean to sound preachy. Honest. And I know there are probably

many on this board who have gotten pregnant well before their one year

surgery anniversary, whether by accident or on purpose. They may have

even gone on to lose tons of weight after they had their baby. But, I'm

just asking you to look real hard at your motivations for surgery, for

conceiving now rather than a few months down the road. It is not

something to take lightly. Talk to your doctor again and tell him how

you and your husband want to try now. Maybe he can give you some

concrete reasons why you should wait. If you are not satisfied with

what he says, by all means it is up to you. Good luck.
