Oh, that is just intolerable. This woman has personal problems. Maybe

she's infertile and bitter about it. In any case, she should leave her

personal feelings out of it. I'd write a letter to the head of the

radiology department and complain about this woman's demeanor. Totally

unacceptable. She's working for YOU. If you want video, she oughta be

getting it. You shouldn't have had to push the issue.

I do understand why they can't tell you a date, for their own liability

reasons... but I think that that's crap too. Attorneys and lawsuits have

screwed up our medical system in really convoluted ways. There's no

sensible reason why she can't say, Oh, this probably puts you at about

XX weeks, but don't count that as gospel truth until your doctor

confirms it. Sheesh! What would be wrong with that?

I mean it, you need to write a letter and document the entire

experience, both good and bad. Send it to the head of the radiology

department or the office manager of the perinatology or wherever it was

that you went for this. I'd consider sending a copy to your doctor's

office as well. Written letters get LOTS of attention in places like

that, especially when they know you've copied it to somebody else as

well. They have meetings about these things, and people get raked.

You know, I just realized that in many of my posts, I must sound like an

irritable hard-nose... I'm pondering ways to fix this! LOL It's just

that I get rabid when it comes to the way doctors and other

medical-types treat people anymore. They may have more education about

the technical aspects of their profession, but those people are still

PEOPLE and are totally subject to bad behavior and rude manners as

anyone else in any other profession. It's a postmodern thing... but then

again, I don't want to get started on *that* subject or we'll be here

for days, and you'll unsub because I'm becoming insanely off-topic. LOL

Need to vent a little...

Hello Ladies,

Well, my doctors office ordered an ultrasound to date my pregnancy.

Since I'm extremely irregular, he decided to use ultrasound to get an

accurate picture of how far along I am.

The whole ultrasound experince was a major pain. The technician was

so impersonal...totally " by the book " . She gave us grief about

wanting to video tape the ultrasound. But, we pushed the issue,

telling her that this baby was a long time coming ( almost 10

years!), so it was very important to us to get it on tape. She

begrudgingly put the tape in the recorder.

She began the ultrasound. She just worked silently, not pointing

anything out to us. Even my questions were met with silence. She

just marked the various items on screen. Finally, I saw that she

typed " Gestational Sac " , but it looked empty to me. I asked her if

that was the case and her reply was, " Well, I'm going to have to

consult with the Doctor. He may want to order more tests. " Needless

to say, I was terrified. I've never been pregnant. This is a

totally new experience. At that moment, I just knew that my baby

didn't exist.

The technician continued doing her work, scanning my kidneys, liver,

gallbladder, etc. All of which I didn't care about one bit! After

what seemed like an eternity, she finished. She informed us that she

was going to go over the results with the doctor and she'd be back.

I asked if it would be ok to go to the bathroom. It was.

She came back after 10 or 15 minues (it felt like forever!!!) and

said the doctor wanted her to do " another test " ...a transvaginal

ultrasound.

Since her arms were so little, she had to pull the ultrasound machine

very close to her to be able to reach. Unfortunately for me, that

meant I couldn't see the screen. Hubby was with me, though, and we

had our tape. She (silently again) begins her work. Eventually, she

points to something on screen and asks Chuck if he sees that...that's

the baby's heart. Praise the Lord! I can't begin to describe what

relief I felt at that moment! Chuck was so amazed! That little bean

was our baby! She was quick to point out that at this point it's not

really a heart beat...it's called a " flicker " . Give me a break!

This lady was such a stick in the mud! She does, however, let us

hear the " flicker " . That was the most thriliing sound ever. Let me

tell you, I couldn't hold back the tears if I had tried!

So, by this point, I really wish I could see what's going on, I want

to make sure this is being recorded. So, I ask. Um...no. Now I'm

really irritated. I just found out that my baby is not dead, I can't

see him/her, and you're not recording it!!! OK, she decided that now

would be a good time to start recording. Out of nearly an hour of

ultrasound...we got about 1.5 minutes on tape. Did I mention that I

was annoyed with this lady???

After all this, she wouldn't tell us how far along we are. Her

office would contact my doctor's office, who would then contact me.

Blah, blah, blah! Argh! It's not like this is some State Secret!

So, I know that us preggo women can be a bit emotional, but, I don't

think I'm overreacting about this one. I can tell you that I won't

be going to the same place to get my next ultrasound done. You can

take that to the bank!

Thanks for letting me rant, ladies! Venting can be so helpful!!

Blessings,

Children are a reward from the Lord.
