Guest guest
A Good Liquid Stool Softener that works wonders for me is an medication that is prescribed by my doctor called Soflax. It is a thick strong syrup, I would dilute it with lots of water cause if I don't then I cough uncontrollably. For the Yeast - have you tried the liquid Nystatin, and push it through the G - Tube. Maybe you need the internal healing and not just the outer healing of Nystatin. Guest guest
Yeast looks like little red dots rather than widespread redness. For the diaper area I use a recipe my pediatrician gave me. I usually make a speciman cup full of the stuff and keep it on hand. I have also been known to put it around Bekah's g-tube. Mix equal parts of Desitin, Lotramin (for the yeast), and Cortaid(to help it heal). I use generic since this gets rather pricey. Add enough baby powder to make it a think paste. If the area is very weepy, dry it with a blow dryer on cool. Put the paste on thick and put baby powder on top. When you change her diaper, instead of wipes, lightly spray the area with a mixture of water and baking soda ( I think it is about 1/4 tsp Baking Soda per cup of water) and pat dry and add more cream. Don't completely wipe off cream unless she has a BM. Also you can put some Baking Soda her bath for her to sit in. Paz, Yeast, constipation/stool softners OK all you experts...... Yeast - what does it look like around the g-tube site and diaper area and how do you control it. Acidophilus and Nystatin (anit-fungal) are not working! Constipation and stool softeners - what foods are good for constipation versus stool softening? Do you have any ideas ? Guest guest
Lori, has recently been sick and from the meds got very constipated, otherwise she is pretty regular. We have found Sunsweet prune juice with Lutein to give her relief. We played around with the dosage at first i.e. a tablespoon the first day and increasing the next day if nothing happened, 2-3 Tbls.a day mixed with water has gotten her more regular again. Also, typically we give her 5 oz. of water, 3x day. However, with the use of the prune juice we see an increase of yeast. Hopefully, this will only be temporary? will get little red pimple like things (itchy) around her Mic-Key button and bottom as well as other symptoms. is seen by a Homeopath and has recommended probiotics for the yeast. The only product we have found to keep the yeast at bay for her is Pro-Bio Gold through Kirkman. We give her 1 capsule twice a day as a daily supplement. During antibiotic use the dose is increased. The down side though, the product is expensive but in my opinion it's been worth it. www.kirkmanlabs.com 1- 's diet is Isomil and 2% milk (orally she enjoys Gogurt). In addition to the Pro-Bio Gold her other supplements that we have found beneficial are-flax oil, Omega3 fish oil, Phyto Complete (powder by Metagenics loaded with carefully processed vegetable extracts) and vitamins. This probably was more info then you needed or wanted :-) Jan H. mom of 3yr. Guest guest
Lori, The paste idea is what we would use in the hospital for persistent topical yeast. We use a liquid acidophilus for Dylan, Apple-Honey Acidophilus Probiotic by Nature's Life, it is soy based rather than milk based. Dylan has been much better with the ongoing constipation / megacolon issues since we added Enulose 1 Tbsp once a day. I had avoided going to any medications for years, but it has helped. Regardless he still does not move things through well. I am convinced that it is neurological and that the bowels are just not getting good nerve input to contract like they should to move things through. Sometimes adding mineral oil has helped just for the lubrication. Some doctors do not like it, particularly if there is question of reflux. His DO again helped move things along last week with osteopathic manipulation. Dylan is still tube fed, and on prosobee, so I have no direct experience on how different foods affect him. Things like milk, chocolate, bananas tend to be constipating for my other children. Kim > Lori, > > has recently been sick and from the meds got very constipated, > otherwise she is pretty regular.
