Greetings Hippies,

Glad to continue to see so many moving forward, and even when facing

challenges we keep pushing through. , don't give up. Maybe as

some have said, get a massage. My wife's big on massage and she has

been arranging for me to get a couple of hours w/ tons of work on the

stump...it really helps. My PT also is big on muscle manipulation.

This plus heat & hot tub seems to keep me moving pretty well.

Anyhow at 10 weeks, I'm finally beginning to forget where I put the

cane around the house. While my gait ranges from close to normal to

less than that, I've been working at good posture and gait for short

distances. I guess I look like I'm in practice for a beauty contest

w/ the book on the head...ready for the runway! Somehow my butt in

speedos w/ the shark bite scar might not maximize my score on that

event.

I'm still hoping to surf on the 12 week point. At this time I don't

really know if it will happen. What I do know is that I will go to

the ocean and get on my board, paddle around, sit up, and we'll see

about actually surfing. Right now just getting back into the ocean,

real sharks and all, sounds good. Unfortunately w/ the teenager on

Kauai we're all reminded of what it means to enter the food chain.

Seems like the body boarders out there have been getting hit the

hardest the past few years.

My surf buddies are using me as their gauge, there is a substantial

contingent of guys in my age range & profile that are dealing w/ bad

hips. They're pretty stoked on my progress and at least in my peer

group resurfacing still holds huge promise. The real test will still

be down the line when I see how the body does once I get back into

surfing. I'm not really sure how it will play out and have been

mentally going through the turns and twists, compressions and

unweighting, much less cross stepping on a longboard, all of which are

part of a typical session. It does seem that surfing will be less

stress than skiing, and the ski discussions have really kept my hopes

very high.
