Guest guest
Dear Lacey, I remember receiving similar news after my son's second heart surgery ... he would most likely need a pacemaker. It turned out that they were right. He did need one. He was two years old then. Now he's eight. And going strong! We've had to go back in for two other heart surgeries since then - one for an old VSD patch that had come loose, and another to replace the pacemaker leads in his heart which were " misfiring " or something. Other than that, he's been doing great " heart-wise! " I tell you this, just because I know how scary and unfamiliar it is, but I want you to realize that it is totally something Lucas can live with. In a way, it's a strange comfort knowing that he has the pacemaker because it keeps him going. Our family jokes that he is like the energizer bunny - just going and going and going! Of course, he still tires more easily than most kids, but he is getting old enough now that he can learn to set his OWN pace for running and playing. He slows down when he is tired, or takes a short rest. Then he's back at it again. He has taken now to showing off his pacemaker and his heart scars to people who are curious. We even brought his pacemaker machine (the thing you check it with OVER THE PHONE - AMAZING!!!) to his school and showed his class how it works. They thought it was the coolest!!! I don't mean to underplay your worry. Of course you worry. And it is a serious thing. I just thought you might like to hear from someone who has been through and who is living with it daily. I wish you all the best. Rosie (mom to Neal, 8, CHARGE, and -Marie, 3)
Guest guest
Lacey, I am so sorry to read your post. Of course you must be worried and there is no reason you should ever say worrying shows you don't trust God. I think he gave us that emotion on purpose to protect our loved ones. Actually he must be proud of you for being so proactive with Lucas. Finding the problem is what needs to be done now. Your worrying is leading everyone to the answer. If he heals without surgery then that is truly a miracle. But isn't it also one to just find out what is causing the fever? Imagine if you didn't worry about that or didn't worry about the clicking. I feel terrible you all have to go through this. Know we are wishing you the best. Keep us updated Bonnie
