OK, I got all your replies and here is the recipe for fruit butter.

Raisins: 8 cups (soak in water over night, then drain)

Prunes: 1 #10 can, pitted

Honey: 1 cup

Vanilla: 1/4 cup

Apple juice: 2 --46 oz cans

Puree all the above ingredients together. 2 1/2 oz. of fruit butter or 1 #16

scoop per day, followed by 4 oz of fluid. When beginning, you can start with

small amounts and work your way up to the full dose.

This can be served with breakfast, snacks or evening meal. May be mixed with

cereal at breakfast. Can be administered directly into a g-tube.

Experiment, it is sweet. Be sure to get clearance from the primary physician

or dietician to assure that no other health conditions are incompatible with

this concentration of simple carbohydrates. For diabetics, for example, yoiu

may need to leave out the honey and vanilla.

Also, warning!! you may not need the entire cans of apple juice--experiment

for the texture you want and it is best to add the first can then a little at

a time for desired texture (per my infomercial aspiring house manager!--the

first time she made it, it was so thin you could drink it!)

This recipe was provided by St. sburg Cluster in Florida courtesy of Pat

dietician and is enthusiastically supported by a growing number of

nurses who spend much of their time managing constipation. Be sure the

person gets adequate fluids!!

Note that if you make the above recipe in the quantities noted, you will have

enough for a small army of your friends and relatives. You can subdivide the

ingredients to make smaller amounts, but it will also keep nicely for a month

or so in the refrigerator. To give you an idea, our group homes of 8 people

have been running out in 2 weeks (but they do eat alot of it!)

Have fun!

Jennie, mom of Mallory and and so on and so on.......
