Guest guest
Sandy, sorry to hear about your dx. I have been diabetic for about six years (actually probably longer, but that was when it was dx) also triggered by prednisone. To begin with I was able to keep it under control by diet and exercise, but everytime I took pred I had to go onto glyburide (that is a sulphonurea) the downside of that is you can get low blood sugar - which incidentally can cause sweats!. Now I take glucophage as well as diet and exercise, but still have to go onto glyburide when I am taking pred. I check my blood sugar regularly, it is a nuisance, and the strips are expensive, but then you can work out what foods have what effect on your sugar levels. Also I read a very good book on the glycemic index(I will find the title for you in a couple of days) this gives really useful information on how quickly various foods break down in your body. I know its depressing at first, but you CAN help yourself with diabetes. Lots of green veggies are good, exercise is good, and you can have an occasional treat if it is part of the overall plan. Also I find 4 small meals suit me better than 3 larger ones. Read as much as you can, knowledge is power!! Hang in there, Love Liz __________________________________________________
