Guest guest
Hello, my name is . I am new to this whole chat room and posting messages thing. I am also new to Cancer. I was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer on the 4th of July 2002. I am only 29 years of age and scared every night that I try to sleep and every day I see the doctor or go for treatment(chemotherapy) I am currently on 5FU and lukavorian(however that is spelled. Now my cancer in certian spots has increases in size and my oncologist wants to start me on oxcaliplatian in addition to what I am now doing. I have heard that this new drug is having good results but some bad side effects, now I am even more worried and nervous. I joined this group in hope of some answers and encouragement. Last place we ever wanted to be, however, being known by the company we keep - super to see everyone is stepping up to the plate. You will be able to add some chapters to this, when you are one of those who will not sit back and let others control your destination. I see so many that just accept the doctor's word without question. Gotta say it, there are loads who are dedicated, however, there are those who I think get a power trip from playing God. Getting that second opinion (or even third) is smart, like shopping for a house or car - but much much more important. No doctor can be thought of doing someone a favor by telling them " get things in order. " OTHER than to say, it is a wake up call, which is better than no wake up call at all. Think of -- --- " It is like the story of the frog. A frog is placed in a pan of boiling water, he jumps out quickly because he knows the water is hot and it is deadly. However, place the frog in a pan of cool water and gradually warm it to boiling point, he will not jump out because the warming was done slowly. " ---They turned the heat up on us, but how we react is what is going to show the outcome. God Bless Terry, hoping for a good Tues. and all the days thereafter. Betty B. Guest guest
HI . I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. 29 is just way to young to have to deal with this. Just stay positive and hopeful and ask lots of questions and don't give up till you get answers. My mom is currently taking oxaliplation with 5fu and luvorkin(sp.) she was diagnosed with stage 4 almost two years ago. she has been on this treatment for a couple months and we are unsure yet if this treatment is working. she probably won't know until late this month. But I do know that the side effects aren't as bad as they were the first time she went thru chemo( can't remember exactly what it was now). the more major side effect is sensitivity to cold... weather or even cold food, drink, water makes it feel like she has razor blades in her fingers, toes wherever. She is really tired alot but she is also anemic too. I will post more on here when we find out the results of her next scan. Please just stay positive and don't give up hope. Take care of yourself and check out any options that may be helpful. feel free to email me anytime... canner10@.... I will say a prayer for you. Candi > > Hello, my name is .
