Guest guest
Wow! You sound like a person who is very, very special! I just adore planning surprises--and I don't consider it a weakness--I think it is a gift! I also love the laid-back easy way of your day. How luxorious to spend a day with an amazing back-drop such as the park you describe--to read, chat, sip coffee, bask in the environment--the fresh air! Marvelous! Make sure with your surprise, you hide away a little overnight bag with all might need. duh--I forget, which MS med is she on? Would you need to pack an injection for her? I think fantasizing about up-coming events is what helps me get through many days! best to you, Reb, kate Vacation plans - long, rambling, post... Hi all,I am finishing (or trying to...) an article for a scholarly magazine, that my favorite professor wanted me to write, but after that I'llhave some real time off. And has 4 days left at work before her4-weeks vacation. So, come weekend, it's vacation time around here...We did spend one week at Tenerife, Spain, in april, so we are notplanning any long trips now. We are going to spend one week inStockholm (capital of Sweden) – I lived there as a child, but Ihaven't been there for some years (7? 8?, something like that) now,and has only been there a couple of times. Apart from that we'll mostly be spending the vacation the way we likethe best; just take it from day to day and not make too many plans(it's the way we have always preferred to have our time off, luckilyenough since it fits in so well with 's MS). And of course, we'lldo our most cherished vacation-thing, our one definitevacation-tradition: We'll take ourselves and books we want to read tothe City park in Lund (our closest city, and also the place where weonce met) around lunch time, or possibly earlier, depending on what wefeel like that particular day, find a table in the shadow (none of usis too fond of heat or too much direct sun exposure, a good thingabout that is it really helps getting a table at an open-airrestaurant, without making reservations, since everybody else wants atable in the sun...) at the park restaurant. We'll have some lunch, orwe'll start with a coffee or cold drink, depending on when we getthere. Then we'll just sit and read, and sip our coffee/drinks, eatingour ice-cream, or whatever, and occasionally one of us will commentsomething, about what we read in our books or perhaps something else, and we'll chat for a short while before going back to read. If one ofus would get restless, the park is a marvelous walking-ground justlaying there waiting for us to take a stroll in it... And that's abouthow we will spend the whole day, possibly finishing it off with dinnerat another, in-door, restaurant (without reading...), or goingstraight home, depending on what we feel like. I know it sounds boringto most, but being the book-worms we both are, it just never gets oldto us... It's company, conversation, reading, nice surroundings, allat once... It doesn't have to be in Lund's City Park either, even ifthat is the "classic" setting for it (to us), we did a little of thesame at the beach-restaurants on Tenerife too, and it worked just finethere as well... We are also planning on going to see the new Harry Potter-movie, andmake a bit of a day out of it, with dinner etc. It's a bit childish Isuppose, but we just happen to be Harry Potter-fans, as grown up as weare... I also have a little surprise planned for ... We have been toElsinore, Denmark (the setting for Shakespeare's "Hamlet", you canread more about the place here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kronborgand here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elsinore ) before, but only onday trips, and we have never stayed longer than a few hours. Lastyear, when our day trip happened to be a few hours later than itusually is, we discovered just how lovely a place it is in theevenings, when the number of tourists is less overwhelming, and wetalked about how nice it would be to make an over-night visit theresome time. So, I have booked a hotel room in central Elsinore, withouttelling , and the plan is to just suggest it as a day trip, andnot break the news about the hotel until we are there, but we'll haveto see how that works out in real life... An extra plus about havingthe room is that it also gives a place to lay down and rest for awhile, if she needs to. I just love to plan little surprises, it's oneof my weaknesses....Well. should stop fantasizing about the coming vacation and get backto my article writing, I suppose...love/Reb
Guest guest
I picked a non-injection day ( is on Rebif, three injections a week), because that way she will be able to enjoy a nice wine with her dinner – she takes meds (right now I don't recall the name) for the flu-like side effects of the shots, and she wants to stay off alcohol the day she takes them, just to be safe. And I will have to buy a new toothbrush to bring – since I think she will notice if I pack hers... love /Reb > > Wow! You sound like a person who is very, very special! Guest guest
Hi Reb~ It sounds like you are quite the romantic. is very fortunate to have you. And no, you don't sound childish at all. There's a child in each and every one of us. We just have to be willing to let the child out to play once in awhile. Nothing wrong with that. And the vacation you are planning with sounds lovely! I too am a bookworm. I just don't understand how people can sit there glued to the television and not having to use their brains at all. I love reading a good book and allowing my mind to visualize what I'm reading. If it is a really good book, it's just like going to the movies. The bad thing about good books, is they always come to an end before you're done reading. The good thing is, you can always read it again! It sounds like a perfectly quiet, peaceful, and relaxing vacation. To me, those are the best kind. And you will be in a beautiful area to do just that. I hope you and enjoy yourselves to the max! She's going to love your little plan. It's very well thought out. I hope you'll be able to contain yourself and not spill the beans. I'm excited just thinking about it myself. May God bless you... Val I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3rd 1:4 Vacation plans - long, rambling, post... Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Sorry about the late reply – I heard about a study that would be just perfect as a reference in the article I'm writing, and just had to chase down the author to get hold of a copy. Some times scholarly work really is like going treasure hunting as a kid (and other time it's just as dreadfully boring as those practices in first grade where you had to write the same letter over and over and over again...). I lean towards believing that the Harry Potter series has come to an end, since I believe she had the whole series planned out from the very beginning. But, you never know though, plenty of writers have " finished " series more than once... In any case I seriously doubt that she will be able to stop writing altogether, so I'm sure we'll see more from J.K Rowling in the future! love /Reb > > Hi Reb: > > I'm also a Harry Potter fan and I can barely wait to get the newest book. Guest guest
Hi Reb:Did you get the new book yet? I haven't, but I want to so badly! Then I want to hide in my bedroom and lock the door and read it cover to cover. I did hear that at the last minute J.K. Rowling changed the last chapter from what she had planned long ago. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, No, I (we) haven't yet. I understand the book shops around here was open during the night when it was released, so they could start selling it at the very second it was officially released. I understand it was released at the same time world-wide. I can definitely relate to wanting to hide out in the bedroom to read it, those books really catch all your attention once you start reading them, don't they! ;0) love /Reb > > > > > > Hi Reb: > > > > > > I'm also a Harry Potter fan and I can barely wait to get the newest > > book. Guest guest
Sharon and Reb, My daughter read the book on our long drive back from Florida. We had to wait at Wal-Mart at midnight in Panama City. Crazy, huh? She played ball all day in the hot sun but wanted the book. She didn’t say a peep for about 9 hours!!! My husband started it after she was done. I guess I am last…. Long trip but we are home. Tired of traveling. Florida was hot and sunny. Hannah’s team was 13th out of 42 teams in their age group (16 and under). There were 221 teams all together. Anyway glad to back. Need some sleep…. Guest guest
re-reading the last Harry Potter book before getting the new one is a really good idea – I should probably do that too! Except for having a lot of those flu-like side effects from her Rebif lately, is fine, and enjoying the first of her four summer vacation weeks. Reading and watching movies. We recorded Shadowlands (the one about C.S. and his wife Joy) yesterday, and we are going to see it later. We've seen it before, but it's such a beautiful movie that it certainly doesn't hurt to see it again... love /Reb > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Reb: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I'm also a Harry Potter fan and I can barely wait to get the newest > > > > > > book. Guest guest
re-reading the last Harry Potter book before getting the new one is a really good idea – I should probably do that too!
