Guest guest
Hi Dawn You bring up an interesting point. I had been getting progressively worse ovulation pain for the last 10 years. Since I stopped taking the contraceptive pill (age 29). Over the past 3 years I often needed a pain killer as at times the pain would be unbearable for about 6 hrs. I have ovulated twice since my thyroid surgery and I have had no pain at all. I wonder if it is connected to GD or thyroid problems???? I was only diagnosed this year, but I am sure I've had it for ages. And it seems strange that the thyroid levels get fixed and I have no ovulation pain at all. What about others?? Terry, - maybe another symptom for your list? Guest guest
Hi Caroline- I have a lot of pain when I'm hypothyroid. As soon as I'm normal, it goes away. I was very young when I was hyperthyroid and it was only for 6 months but I didn't have pain then. Maybe it takes a while. Take care, Re: worse b4 period > Hi Dawn > > You bring up an interesting point. Guest guest
Greetings all, I'm convinced that thyroid problems mean elevated symptoms before your period. When my thyroid levels were on their way down from hyper, I also took a big " hyper " surge the ten days before my period: my heart rate would increase, tension, diarrhea, stomach cramps, weight loss. The minute I got my period, I'd gain back the three pounds I'd lost and all the others would subside. I've been in remission with normal thyroid levels for nearly a year and still have this experience--I can eat more and drop a couple of pounds before my period, go right back to my regular weight for the two weeks after my period and then drop again, heart rate increases, more stomach complaints etc. My TSH has fluctuated quite a bit in the past year and I think my body is still stabilizing -- the problems are more pronounced when my TSH is around 1 and when it's near 2 I'm better. Guest guest
Dawn and Caroline, I've had ovulation pain so bad it was all I could do to walk. I've been in remission since July, the pain hasn't completely gone away, but it is easier to deal with. It used to be I couldn't stand, sit, lay down and was literally unable to sleep I was so uncomfortable. My ovulation pain started in my teens and I questioned the doctor about it several times. Never was told what it was until I brought it up to my first ob/gyn, who laughed and said " well at least I know your ovulating. " Which I only brought it up to him because my husband and I were taking marriage classes through the catholic church. I try to take B-complex everyday, but don't always it don't agree with my stomach. That has seemed to help with the symptoms. I have to take it at night, and sometimes I am so tired when I go to bed I forget. I've had a hard time believing I've been in remission, I am off the medication, but there are days I feel I need it. Just because the labs say I am normal, I certainly have days I don't. But, being I just turned 44 who knows if some things have changed because of perimenopause. I need to get it checked when I go to the doctor. Which I am still deciding who to go to. I am seriously thinking of going to my primary care giver, which I haven't had to use for three years, since I've been healthy. Sounds to me like this could be a graves thing or thyroid problems. I never had a weight problem until after having my first two and the graves disease thing. But, when I was younger in my teens and early twenties if I had 5 or 10 lbs. to lose it was a struggle. Did anyone else with graves have this problem before being diagnosed? Guest guest
I definitely think these symptoms need to go on the list. Guest guest
Hi I think it is related. But what to - Graves or Thyroid issues. It is so hard to determine. I don't really know if my GD is in remission - I doubt it because it has been too soon. But my thyroid functions are stable and normal. So I think it probably more related to thyroid. There is so much that is uncertain in this disease, yet has a huge effect on our lives. If you were young when hyper it may be possible you weren't ovulating properly then anyway. I'm so glad to have everyone here to discuss stuff with. Thanks All, Cheers Caroline Utecht wrote: > Hi Caroline- > > I have a lot of pain when I'm hypothyroid. Guest guest
Hi Caroline- I feel like a dunce. I was young, but not that young, when I was hyper (24). I was on birth control so, of course, I didn't have pain. I'm pretty much down in the dumps today. I thought the fertility drugs would work as they did the last time but another month has gone by and no pregnancy. I don't know what's wrong. This was supposed to work according to the doctor. He was sure I'd be pregnant the next time I saw him and that was 3 months ago. They can never really find any problem with me. My ovaries, even though I've been diagnosed with PCO, are normal and healthy. Take care, Re: worse b4 period > > > > > Hi Dawn > > > > > > You bring up an interesting point. Guest guest
Duly noted, Caroline. I've had a few episodes of cramps so bad I can barely breathe, but no ovulation pain (may not be ovulating too often now...)
