Guest guest
I need help trying to figure out what to do. I've been very patient with for this past year. In the past, has always made little progress for months and then she has a giant leap in her speech. Usually, the giant leap happened during the summer. Well, I noted the little progress, but I just decided to wait until after summer to see if she would have another leap. She hasn't, so now I have to go on the offense, and I don't know what to do. She's getting speech at school 3 times a week and OT once a week. She's getting private speech 1/week. I changed private speech therapist, and I've noticed a little improvement since we started seeing her. The big problem that I see is that she has made great strides in her reading this summer. She is now ready for harder books, except she cannot say the words. She loves the " Amelia Bedelia " books, but she cannot say the main character " Amelia Bedelia " name. She finally just says " blah blah blah " whenever she reads " Amelia Bedelia " . When she was reading the books, she couldn't say " furniture " and " exclaimed " and some other words. I would read the words to her, and she had a hard time trying to say the words slowly after me. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to ask for. She is very smart and she is academically ready for reading harder books and writing more things, but the speech is definitely getting in the way. She's been very frustrated, and so am I.
