Your story sounds very much like mine, until last February, when I

had Dr. Mont resurface my hip. I have posted my details quite a bit

in the last year so just search on my name, carder, and maybe my

posts will help you. You may also contact me directly.

Ron,

Just curious why you have the wait for your second hip? What were the pros

and cons of not having them both done at once or within a week? What was Dr.

Mont's advice? I hope to have bilateral and get it over as soon as possible.

Thanks for your comments.

I' live in Utica, NY and just had my 6-week check with Dr. Mont yesterday after

being resurf'ed Feb 25th and all is going well. I'm 51 years old, have had OS

in both hips for over 12 years and wishing I had not waited so long. I expect

to have my right hip resurfaced in the fall. In my opinion, Dr. Mont and staff

are first rate. I don't believe I could have had a better experience. They

handled all insurance issues, I had no involvement and everything was taken care

of. My wife was notified of my progress at regular intervals during my surgery

by the anesthesiologist. Pre and post op care was great. They even coordinated

the home care nurse, physical therapist and medical supplies company for us.

Great team and great results thus far! Like you, I am physically active and

looking forward to resuming activities I have missed for years.

Best regards,

Ron M.

I have been researching the resurfacing option and am ready to

go for it. I have seen a lot of positive comments, on active joints,

about Dr. Mont, in Baltimore and Dr. Gross, in South Carolina. I am

from upstate New York. I noticed that there is a Doctor who does

this in New York City, but there have been no comments about him.

I made one contact with Dr. Mont's office and was planning to

send him my x-rays. Can anyone give me some advice on who would be

the best choice. I want to keep it on the East coast. I am 48 years

old and was active in sports, until much of my activity was limited,

do to my hip. I want to be able to go back to, at least some limited

sports activity. Thanks.

Dr. Inglis out of Rosevelt Hospital in NYC is a top notch surgeon. His group

does work for the NY Yankees, and if you know anything about Bossman

Steinbrenner, that's saying something. However, my impression is that they are

weak in dealing with insurance companies, vis-a-vis resurfs, so you might have

to " coach them up " a bit. Also, Inglis puts no movement restrictions on either

his resurfs or his THRs (once the muscles have healed) except what is

mechanically restrictive (i.e. resurfs can do splits and THRs can't).

I got bounced off the resurf road by CIGNA HMO so am " stuck " with a THR surgery.

Good luck to you.

Saeed,

My decision. They had me tentatively scheduled for the other hip 4 days after

my first. Day after surgery, I was concerned about difficulty associated with

not having one good leg to work with, significantly greater time away from work

(I'm self employed). I also thought I would do a better job of healing. The

first few days of this or any surgery is pretty tough... doesn't mean it can't

be done. I just felt that having both hips done at the same time was probably a

little more than I was prepared to go through at one time. As an avid canoeist

and outdoors person, I decided to enjoy our beautiful Central New York summer

and fall and have the other hip done during our not so enticing late fall/winter

months.

Best regards,

Hi,

I was resurfaced left hip on 4/11/02 at Sinai by Dr. Mont I went home

Sunday 4/14/02 drove back to Detroit 9 hr. drive. All went very well, from

the staff to the doctors. I couldn't have be more pleased. I have been home

of 2 days started therapy on Monday. I have had little pain I am just not to

crazy about crutches for the next 6 weeks. I would highly recommend going to

MDA day before surgery it was very informative and it gave me a confortable

feeling about the whole process since I had not met Dr. Mont or been to Sinai

prior to this surgery. I also had a conforting 2 hr. conversation with

Captian Amaze O the day before I left. You will notice he posts alot on

surface-hippie he can offer confort and a wealth of information.

I can't say enough about the hospital, the nurses, the pre-op and post-op

staff , physical & occupational therapy staff. If you care to e-mail direct

please do so. Good luck on your decision.

hi all,

I have any appt. with Dr. Mont on May 22nd at 7:45 am

which means I have to leave home (NJ) at 4 to drive

down to Baltimore, but the timing seems so far away.

Does he really need to see me in person to give an

precise consultation/remedy? I'm pretty sure he'll

recommend the resurfacing implant. Anybody else do a

" remote " appt. with him? Any comments and suggestions

will be greatly appreciated.

thank you,

Ola

I sent all my Xrays to Dr Mont, plus a fairly extensive cover

letter/history; and the first time I'll actually see him is probably

about 5 minutes before surgery on May 2nd!!
