Guest guest
My insurance requires me to have a 12 wk Optifast program before I can be on the surgery program. So it goes like this.......... 4wks meal replacement, 8 weeks transition back to real food. Then..........6 more weeks Optifast then, surgery. I also have to drive to Lansing , MI once a week (3hrs north east of where I live). But, I am pretty proud of myself and thanks for the info !! :) in MI 328/Pre-op

Guest guest
Hi 15 lbs in 2 weeks is awesome! It is VERY possible to lose just as fast with Optifast as it is following the surgery (if not faster). The problem with Optifast is that in the long term the great majority of people don't keep the weight off. You gain it back as quick as you lose it... But if you are doing to Optifast to lose some weight and then will have the surgery, that is the ideal in my opinion To give you a little background, I did HMR's program which is pretty much the same as Optifast except that HMR has some added support and a long-term maintenence program. Needless to say, I lost 125 lbs in less than 9 months, maintained for 3 weeks, and then gained 123 lbs back in 8 months. And my metabolism is blown... The moral of the story? Be careful with Optifast, HMR, and other liquid fasts. They don't teach you how to eat properly, they are awful on your metabolism because you lose VERY fast (and with the lbs lost is muscle lost), chances are you'll gain the weight back anyway, etc. But again, if you are doing the Optifast just for a few weeks before your surgery, awesome! Guest guest
Hi Your welcome and AWESOME! Just look at this as you have the chance to start your weight loss early I wish I could have/would have had the surgery following my losing the 125 lbs on the HMR program. Alas, I didn't know about WLS back then so it was never even considered.
