Hey Debkroll

You know me I don't take much junk from anybody even Oprah and you are right

she is not winning her weight loss battle it looks like she is a Yo Yo Dieter

and continuing to be so. Let's just see if she is healthier for it in the

long run. She has not maintained a constant ideal weight to her height ever

since she started her weight loss journey even with her personal chefs and

trainers and she above others knows just how difficult it is to lose the weight

and

maintain the loss. I feel if you are going to be in the spot light you should

at least lead by example and Ms. Winfrey is no weight loss example. I like

her and she does an enormous amount of good but she really needs to open her

eyes and use her journalistic integrity in a fair and equal way towards subjects

that she does not feel comfortable with and obviously WLS is something she is

not comfortable with. Perhaps she sought the same remedy and for whatever

reasons was not an appropriate candidate. Hmmmmmmmmmmm makes one wonder. :)

:) You Go Toi

Let her have an eye full of what she obviously knows nothing about. I say if

you are uniformed on a subject then become informed especially when you are

providing a viewing audience with one sided information. Her end result was to

make MO and SMO people feel even worse than they may feel and to put a

horrible spot light on WLS that it is something to be avoided and any success

from

it is not to be acknowledged. Hey that woman is no role model for me in any

faction of my life. I have witnessed more role models on this very site that

have caused such inspiration in me and that have provided all the necessary

informational tools for me to make a sane and determined decision regarding my

health. I can only hope that her staff will actually take the time to read the

comments that we sent to their site and respond in some positive way.

AMEN Lori Anne! You go girlfriend. If I had seen the show, I probably

would have done the same thing.

I recently watched an episode of a weight loss special it may have been

a

repeat episode. I enjoyed the show to the extent of feeling overjoyed

for the

various people at achieving their weight loss goals. I did not however

appreciate the comments that were made repeatedly by Ms. Winfrey

regarding weight loss

surgery. She often stated so and so reached their goal by " hard work "

and

they did it without surgery. I feel that Ms. Winfrey in stating the

matter in

that light appeared to be biased toward those who seek or have sought

the

weight loss remedy by surgical means. I am a 35 year old woman who has

had the

gastric bypass surgery called Roux-En-Y(RNY) and I received my operation

on

8/25/03. I feel that my struggle with weight and my remedy is just as

important

and that I too should be rewarded and successful in my accomplishments.

I have

been on many programs all to no avail. The most weight I have lost on

any one

of these programs is 20 lbs. I would say no I do not have a lack of the

almighty will power because I have done the programs and I work out

regularly and I

mind everything that goes into my mouth low fat, high protein and low

carbohydrate foods but the weight still was an issue. I am a Criminal

Justice

Professional here in NYC and a mother of one very active 14 year old who

does not

have any weight problems and I took great offense to the " negative

attitude "

that Ms Winfrey showed during that show's episode. I can prove to Ms.

Winfrey

that my choice was not the easy way out or the quick fix and I feel that

" real "

people who have undergone surgery should have a chance to have equal

time to

share their stories and accomplishments not just the super stars like

Carnie

, or Al Roker, or Sharon Osbourne, or Roseanne Barr. I feel that

Ms.

Winfrey should continue her tradition of letting real people represent

to all of

America what is really involved in this form of weight loss with equal

representation.

Unfortunately it's so easy for anyone to snub a " fat " person before or after

them!!!!!! boy is that harsh heehee!

Constance

You get em Constance LOL I love your joy of life and yes WLS and weight loss

in general is a damned if you do, damned if you don't catch 22. Some people

believe that if not for all the extra weight life will be rosy and great and

that is simply not true life will be life the good, bad and the ugly side of it

all come into play. I have some extremely attractive and rather slender

friends who are some of the loneliest, most miserable people you would ever

meet,

but they look great and people don't care until they get to know them outside

of their outward appearance. I say be healthy, eat well, move your body and

keep your joy :)

Hi in MI

Well you just tell that sister in law that there are horrible side effects to

a massive heart attack or a stroke or diabetic coma that doctors don't tell

you about and if she is overweight and sits around doing absolutely nothing

about it except criticize your attempts to save your own life and start a fresh

healthy one she should just stop it and take my mother's old adage if you can't

say something nice then say nothing at all :)

Go Lori!!! I've been working on my letter too this morning. I was

excited to see The Oprah show that day and then when I did, I was

disappointed by her comments including the one that aluded to the

fact that ALL MO people have deep seeded issues from their past that

cause them to be obese in the first place and those need to be taken

care of in order to obtain a successful weight loss.

What about those nuclear family issues like growing up in a large

meat and potatoes family and cleaning your plate. I wouldn't trade

my youth for anybody's in the world and have a family history full of

obesity, and no abuse. We were just taught to love food and clean

our plates at home and at school (ok we know better NOW, but at the

time that was what caring parents did). Having a mother who could

cook like nobody's business only helped me to enjoy food even more.

Oprah categorized us and that ticks me off. I've always admired her

for her accomplishments and know that she suffered abuses, for which

I feel very badly for, but to give her public the impression that her

struggles are universal was wrong.

AMEN!!!! I'm gonna stop here or I'll end up filling all your ears

with what I want to tell Ms. Winfrey.

Yeah for you Lori Anne.

You are very articulate and have stated the facts very well. I hope

Oprah " hears " what you have said.
