So sorry to hear your story. I'm paranoid about the humidifier

bottles....guess thats good. But anytime I change and rehook, I dip

my cannula in water to make sure I still have full flow.

Joyce...what an awful experience for you (and your family too). I can only imagine what you were feeling and I have no answers as to what caused a mini-convulsion. O2 deprivation to the brain maybe?

I hope you have recovered to stable now as I write this.

Hugs, if you can stand one. lol

Excitement at our house...

My husband is trying to kill me again!

Last night we were celebrating 's birthday (7) and there was lots of hoopla, singing and noise. Somewhere in the midst of all this, Lucian changes the water in my concentrator bottle. (without telling me) Well, I am sitting at the table eating cake and began feeling so weak.

So, I thought I would move into the sunroom. I sat down in the chair next to the concentrator so that I still could not hear if my 02 was whirling through the tubing or not. Just assumed it was. Thought I had gotten a little winded by the excitement. When I sat there for a moment or two, I asked one of the kids to go get my oximeter. I was feeling really weird by then. I hooked up and my saturation was 40. I wasn't feeling short of breath nor did I have the urge to cough. Just felt so weak and sleepy.

Once the family became aware they were putting fans on me and all breathing in my face. A real fiasco....I cannot remember a lot at that point except I refused to let them call 911. It would come up a little to about 54 then down again. This went on for maybe 10 to 15 minutes. Then in my feeble mind, it dawned on me to check my cannula. It was on 10 by then, you would think I could have heard it.....but five kids and two freaked out adults....couldn't hear much.....especially with that fan in my face.

So....of course, it was threaded wrong and no air was coming through the line. They corrected that and got it going at 10. Well, in about 3 minutes. My body, especially in my chest, began jerking is short spasms all over. They thought I was having a seizure but I was coherant. That went on for about 15 minutes during which time they were trying to get me to let them call 911.....NOT!

So, the good news is that it was an unfortunate mistake.....aaaargh! Also, that I came through it without having to go to the emergency room.

Can anyone tell me what those jerky shudders were all about. That left me so totally drained. What an ordeal. I totally ruined 's party. She went right on with her gift opening, however. Didn't seem too distracted!

You would think after all this time we would be pros at all this, but NOT. Idiocy reigns!

Do you all think those humidifier bottles are difficult to get airtight?? ....or could he have a sinister plot? I'm getting concerned.

Sher,

My pulmo called today about my PFT test. I told him what happened and yes it was a convulsion. He said that my brain was reacting to oxygen loss. I have been unduly tired today.

Joyce,

I have had trouble with Eddie putting the humidfier bottles back on the

concentrator correctly. He will do it without saying anything! It is

hard to screw on correctly. Awful that we have to go behind them and

check and see if it was done correctly!

Joyce, I'm so sorry. That had to be terrifying for all involved. I HATE THIS DISEASE. Hope you are feeling better today. Lots of love, my dear friend. Leanne

I don't understand at all why they have to use such a cheap flimsy

method for humidification. I compare it to CPAP and BIPAP where its

an integral part of the system.

Also, I'm thinking any of us with concentrators in particular really

need an instrument to measure the output. I'd seen some very

expensive ones but recently saw some cheaper ones. I need to relocate

those.
