Guest guest
Phyllis, Thanks for the offer, but dh is in the UK next week and I've already emailed a huge list of stuff to a friend for her to hand over to him. Yes I'd love to meet for lunch! We'll be away the weekend you arrive, but anytime from Tues 10th October onwards. Will email you with phone no. Woo hoo - finally we get an egroup Coffee in Ohio! Guest guest
>Any advice about hiring >car seats? Should we take our own to be on the safe side? Ditto cots? I've >never been to Mallorca and even if I had I doubt I'd be clued up about >acceptability of rented car seats and cots... I've only ever hired cars through the big firms e.g Hertz, Avis etc. but noticed how much the service differed. In the US and Canada the seats came unfitted and were bloody difficult to fit. In fact, the woman who did help me fit Steffi's seat in Virginia fitted it wrongly. When we went to Spain I had learnt from these experiences and asked the car hire firm we used there whether the seats came pre-fitted, which they did. And were in so tight we could hardly get it out when we wanted to! FWIW, each time I've hired a seat it has looked practically brand new. I wouldn't take a car seat with me again (I did to NZ when Steffi was <1yo) unless I was taking it on the plane. You can never be sure how gentle those baggage handlers will be with it. -- Sue

BA are happy for you to do this - as long as the car seat is of an approved standard (i.e. all those on sale in the UK) but Virgin supply their own child seats with a 5 point harness. BA also have seats that fix to the bulkhead for children under 2 - useful if you don't want to fork out for a seat - but Kitty tried one on our flight to Oz, and she was getting a bit too big for it then (10 months) -- Dick, SAHM to (7/4/97) and Kitty (22/7/99) and wife of (26/9/66) Newsletter Editor, Advertising manager See pictures of us all at: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=848605 Password: Wisley

I also took the seat on the plane but when I got to NZ, I couldn't take it on the internal flights, so it had to go in the hold. Also internal flights in NZ count children as 'infants' until 4yo, so they can stay on your lap until that age. -- Sue
Guest guest
Hi all, I'm just curious how getting ready for the holidays is going for everyone. Since I just got back from SC. It seems Thanksgiving has just arrived so fast. And then next week my mom, sister and I are scheduled to travel to Illinois for a week to spend with family and friends. I find myself having to choose which to do and which will be less costly on my body. I'm thinking that I will spend Thanksgiving alone at home to try to get ready for another trip and get all the Christmas presents ready for those folks up north. How do you all handle the holidays when you know that trying to do it all will be too costly on your body, yet you want to be a part of it all?? I have such a hard time trying to explain why I can't do it all...and saying I need to do what's best for me right now is never a satisfactory answer for anyone (even me I think). Looking forward to hearing your input. Guest guest
Diane, I wish you well with your trip coming up. Do try to take it easy. I use to be a shopaholic:) Now I find I do a lot of catalog ordering. That's where I get all my clothes now and I've done a lot of Christmas shopping this way too. I just don't have the energy with working. If I do go to the mall it's for a VERY short period with my daughter for her sake. I over did Thanksgiving. My mother had just had back surgery and couldn't do anything but wanted all the family together. I went up Wed night and spent the night and got up at 5:00 Thursday to start cooking. I did have my sister, daughter and an aunt to help me. It went well and we all had a great time together. I was exhausted when I finally got home late that night. Then I spent the next two days just resting and doing nothing. Maybe your family understands your health problems and will only do things for shorter periods of time so you can rest in between. I hope you have a wonderful time. There's nothing like being with family. You and only you knows what your body is capable of. Good luck. Your friend, Terri L.
