I use two forearm canes and don't really have a problem opening most doors. Some are very heavy or have a very strong return spring and give me a problem. I use one of my canes as a door stop until I can get past where it closes. I really don't know how folks in wheelchairs manage without help. If there aren't any automatic doors, ask - - - and keep asking until you get the name and address of the organization responsible for maintenance. Call them and ask to speak to the manager. Explain the problem to him/her. If they can't do anything, ask for the name of the person who can. If telephoning doesn't work, write letters - to the newspaper, to the Mayor, to the Commission Chairman, to the City Manager, to the Better Business Bureau, to the Area Agency on Aging, to the ACLU, and to anyone else you can think of.
