Guest guest
what kind of surgery did you have and how long ago? Sandi Low Iron Question... Hey ladies, I don't post often but needed to ask a question. I've been doing blood work this week (tuesday and this am) and my iron is super low.. The nurse basically said that if I were admitted to the hospital today that they'd have to give me a blood transfussion. So basically the baby is getting all my iron and leaving me high and dry. Right now I'm taking three SLOWFE iron pills a day and my prenatal. What else can I possibly do to up my iron intake. Oh I'm 29wks right now. And the little one seems to be growing and developing just fine. Any input or advice would be appreciated. Guest guest
Tangia, I'm having the same problem. This last time they told me that I would do better by trying to get more iron from actual food so that it is absorbed better. Spinach salads for everyone! Guest guest
Hey again, I'm a year out from surgery, actually I found out I was pregnant during my 12th month post-op period. As far as the spinach - that's out of the question for me. I can't stand the stuff. I've eaten liver and onions for four nights straight. That's something I actually like to eat so that doesn't bother me. I'd never heard of taking the iron with Vit C before but I'll try anything at this point. I may just HAVE to try some spinach dressed up as something else. Today was the second round of blood tests so next week they'll be calling with more suggestions I'm sure. I guess that that explains why I'm still tired all the time and very winded after walking for a while. And right now I've got the heater running under my desk and it's 80 degrees outside. I'm praying that it will get better. Thanks everyone, and keep it coming if you think of something else... Tangia mgb 10/19/00 pre-op 317 1 yr postop 215 - got pregnant currently 218 and 29wks preg. Guest guest
I had a really hard time with low iron when I was pregnant. I had my son in Germany, and this may be one of those cultural things. but my OB-GYN told me to have 3 ounces of red wine with dinner in my last trimester. He said that everything was already formed and it would not hurt the baby, it would help me get the rest I needed and my iron count would drastically improve. It did. I hope I didn't open a can of worms..
