Guest guest
Hi Bibi, I'll try and answer as a Mom who before last June did not even know apraxia existed. My son received therapy from when he was 27 months but I was told he was delayed so with that I figured he would catch up. My pediatricians were also not worried. Since then I have tried to educate myself on the various symptons and therapies on how to help my son. So bear with me, my responses are what I have read from this group and others. A sympton of oral apraxia is a baby who had problems nursing, cannot pucker lips to kiss, blow bubbles, make rasperries blow out candles, lick lips, move tongue side to side, stick it out. Sometimes can do spontaneously but usually not on command. Oral apraxia can accompany verbal apraxia but does not have to. Oral motor therapy can help a child overcome oral apraxia. Blowing cotton balls across a table, licking peanut butter off his lip, blowing bubbles, horns, etc. The bookmark area of this web has some activities to do at home. There is also a horn set by Sara johnson which perhaps you can look into. I think the site is oromotorslp.com. Verbal apraxia is when the brain has a short getting the sounds to the mouth. I look at it as if our children have to undergo training to produce the sounds again and again. Symptons are a short variety of sounds, dropping beginning and ending consonants, calling many things the same thing, poor imitation skills, losing words. There are so many variations and not every child fits the same description. That I think is why so many children are not diagnoses correctly. My son for example has consistent approximations, never lost words and does not appear to grope for his words. This has led one SLP who works with him to discount his apraxia. However her method of treatment seems to be working so what she calls it doesn't concern me! In terms of your son rubbing his chin, he may becoming more aware that his mouth is there. That is a good thing. Although I think the feet must go! If music is his passion, start singing nursery rhymes with him. Some children seem to respond to music. I don't understand it myself! Most kids at 2 - 2 1/2 play side by side. He also may be starting to recognize his limitations so it is easier for him not to try and interact. I am curious as to what is in the tonics. Have you noticed any changes? There is a speech group based in India. child_language/ Perhaps they can refer you to a speech therapist or hospital where you can begin therapy. What I tell people is whether he is a late talker who will start next week, or has apraxia therapy will not hurt him. Therapy at that age is typically fun for the child. Follow you instincts you know him best. Keep in touch. Mom to 4 (verbal apraxia) and 2 and his biggest fan! > Hi everybody, > I've been reading everybody's mail for the past few > days. And this is what I observed - that for every > query being raised in this forum, somebody or the > other will have an answer to it. And that prompted me > to write this mail. Guest guest
I believe the Bob mentioned this to some time ago when she decided to stop it, but now I believe she has started it again. luv - Sheila I have have done a bit of research this afternoon on the drug in question, it is looking to me like it is possible that:the thyroxine has not been getting absorbed because of the antacid drug which could be interfering interferes with its absorption which may be a circular problem as the acid reflux could be a hypoT symptom, there may well be a B12 and other vitamin deficiencies adding to the symptoms, the drug itself may be causing the anxiety, nausea, palpitations and other symptoms.Mo No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - http://www.avg.com Version: 8.0.169 / Virus Database: 270.7.2/1689 - Release Date: 24/09/2008 18:
