Guest guest
Hi Kari- I had an awful burning pain through the back of my neck, shoulders and back along with stiffness and achiness. Later, it progressed and went down my left arm. Eventually, I lost all feeling in most of my left hand and all feeling in my thumb and forefinger. The other digits tingled. This wasn't constant but seemed to be cyclic and became more and more severe as the years went by. I had it for many years post-RAI after my thyroid no longer functioned but it's been gone since I've supplemented with T3. My circumstances were different from yours since this occurred for me long after my goiter was gone and I had no thyroid function left. Take care, Utecht Kari Sagen wrote: > > > > I have an odd question. Guest guest
, you said that you felt these symptoms post Ria. It sounds like fibromyalgia like symptoms. When I started to feel hypo(despite being called subclinical hyper) I also had severe pain in neck shoulders, back , arms and legs. I also had carpal tunnel like syndrome with tingling and numbness in my hands. It's interesting that you said that when you went on T3 your symptoms subsided. With me because I haven't been nuked yet, my thyroid started to kick in again, and when my numbers started to rise again the symptoms lessened. I still believe that I have true fibromyalgia and possible arthritis ( my Mom died in Feb due to complications of Rheum arthritis) but at least I don't have as much pain. Maybe Kari is started to feel some hypo symptoms as her numbers begin to drop. Guest guest
Hi - This is fascinating. I do know that they don't really know what fibromyalgia really is (kind of like chronic fatigue syndrome). I wonder if it can be caused by thyroid imbalances in either direction. I know of a few hyperthyroid patients with it too. Take care, Iannuzzi wrote: > > > > , you said that you felt these symptoms post Ria. It sounds like > fibromyalgia like symptoms. Guest guest
Hi - I had to rush off to pick up my son and didn't get to the second part of your letter. Did they check you for rheumatoid arthritis yet? All these diseases have a genetic component but they can delay some of the degeneration if inflammation is kept to a minimum. On the other hand, I was diagnosed with arthritis too (non-rheumatoid-I tested negative) which also disappeared when I supplemented with T3. I have a problem effectively converting T4 (replacement hormone) to T3 (active hormone). My T3 levels were very low. No one recognized it as a cause of many of my symptoms until recently. I had had symptoms for many years before then and saw lots of specialists. But they all tried to treat them independently. I finally got relief with the help of a very knowledgeable endocrinologist (Why not look there? I had no thyroid function and thyroid hormone is needed for metabolism by every cell in your body). I'm very sorry about the loss of your mother. I just lost mine this past August and I still can't believe it. Take care, Iannuzzi wrote: > > > > , you said that you felt these symptoms post Ria. Guest guest
Hi , Got your message. Been busy putting mounds of snow clothing on and off today. First snow fall of the season in Jersey. Regarding arthritis, I also test sero negative with sed rates in the teens. It's funny because my Mom was also sero-negative but definitely had rheumatory arthritis. She also had Sjogren's and probable Lupus. My sister is ANA positive with lupus like syndrome. So this family is full of auto-immune problems. My rheumatologist has technically called it sero-neg arthritis with fibromyalgia. She questions all my thyroid symptoms coinciding with these. This all came out last spring after having a bout mono in Fall '98 and going through terrible ordeal with my Mom. Vasculitis with arthritis is awful. The inflammation attacks every organ in your body like lupus. My Mom was in and out with problems for a year with misdiagnosis af alzheimers. Turned out she was having strokes from the vasculitis. Before they could manage her with meds her colon perforated and she had emergency surgery. She ended up coding twice in postop and died 4 weeks lated never coming out of the coma. I am a pediatric ICU RN so this made this even worse for me dealing with being a daughter and a nurse. I suffered post tramatic stress afterwards. But my thyroid levels were the lowest in years. My T4 was 8.5 FreeT4 1.1 T3 143 and Free T3 325. These are all within normal ranges but my TSH was undetectable. Because of this all the endos said I was still subclinically hyper and all my hypo symptoms must be autoimmune. They can't explain why when my Free T4 went up to 1.6 and Free T3 to 450 and feel alot better. I can clearly see a correlation but endos only see numbers. One endo thinks my total T4 needs to be about 5 before I see TSH. Maybe but I don't want to take the chance of being hypo again just to find out. I think I will stay where I am for awhile using PTU when I truly feel hyper not when the numbers read so. Oh, I am getting wordy. I also heard you can have fibromyalgia with hyper because of the imbalance of hormones regulating your whole body. I guess you can't win so we might as well deal with it. Got to wash the kids, P.S. Feb 7th is one year since Mom passed on and I sometimes still can't believe it. There isn't a day that passes that I don't think of her. I can empathize with you. If you to chat , send me a line, I'm a great listener. Guest guest
I was down with a bad flu the 1st week of the year, but it was survivable. Southern California was hit pretty hard. Thanks for asking. At 06:40 AM 01/21/1973 -0600, you wrote: > > >Hi Gang, As the flu has ahlf the world down.
