Guest guest
Hi everyone I just wanted to write and let everyone know that my amnio was Wed. and it went fine. My OB asked if I wanted it numbed first and I said " YES " and it did not hurt at all. I never felt anything really. We saw the baby moving around and kicking. The amniotic fluid was drawn and I must say....if you've never seen it before,,,,,it looks like beer. hahaha. Or urine even.....I thought it would be clear but it wasn't. LOL. Anyway, baby is fine. We find out the results and the sex of the baby on Nov. 30th. Keep us in your prayers that all is well with our little angel. My due date is May 1st!! I feel great, still no weight gain yet. All my lab results are normal and good so I am happy. Some people say they still cannot tell I am pregnant. Depends on what I wear I think. Most people still are saying they don't recognize me after losing 113 pounds. That feels nice. I had my surgery 9 months ago today and I am currently 4 months pregnant. And for those of you that do not know, no, it was not planned. I dealt with infertility for 6 years, lost 5 babies, and took fertility drug (Clomid) to even get preg. with those 5. This time after my surgery, it was unexpected, we were not trying and BAM,,,,I get pregnant. So, the babies will come when the good Lord thinks he needs to put them with us....in HIS time, not ours.....That is one thing I have learned. Guest guest
> never seen it before,,,,,it looks like beer. hahaha. Or urine even..... That's because it *IS* urine. The amniotic fluid is the baby's urine. Kinda sick to think that they way it is recycles is that the baby drinks it, then urinates, etc.

I had an amnio at 37wks with my daughter Saralyn to check for lung maturity but nevertheless an amnio. It wasn't very painful, just uncomfortable, I was also well over 420lbs and again 37wks pg so that might make a difference! *~Joy~* Lap RNY 2/26/01 Dr. N. Guest guest
Thank you for posting on your amnio. I am scheduled for one on December 4th and am nervous of the procedure (needle, the risk, and the outcome). It is good to hear you felt no pain, and that it did not harm your little one. Guest guest
Hi Diane, I had an amnio withmy 3rd child. It didn't hurt at all. I didn't have any numbing meds. You can watch on the screen, if you want. I did have one complication afterwards...I had preterm labor. I had to stay in bed and take meds for a week. After that I was fine. My son was fine too...my AFP was just off because my due date was off. Why are they doing the amnio? If I may ask? Guest guest
Terri, I'm scheduled for my amnio on Dec 12th and was wondering if you were told " bedrest for 2-3 days following the amnio " ? My doc hasn't mentioned anything like that, just friends and neighbors giving their 2 cents worth. I figured I would ask the doc performing the amnio if there's any bedrest guidelines I need to adhere to following the amnio. Guest guest
24 hours of taking it easy, not up and down stairs, running around, bed rest sounds extreme to me. Guest guest
Hi Donna: I'll be 37 when the baby is due. My DH will be 40. This is our first child. I like to think of it as our little miracle. Before RNY, I suffered from PCOS and was never able to conceive. I have been referred to the " high risk " prenatologist because of diabetes and the RNY surgery. I am a worrier and am hoping for peace of mind after the amnio. But it is strictly based on my age.
