The other factor in how dark your sticks will be is how much dietary fat you are ingesting. This will directly affect the reading. It is VERY possible to stay in dark ketosis and NEVER lose any weight. You have to burn off your dietary fat before you burn off stored fat.

If this is correct, then wouldn't we lose weight faster by going low fat foods ?

so is anyone taking this supplement.

Also does anyone here really know if the darker the ketostick the more you

loose? My thinking was that if it was lighter you are flushing more

keotones out of your system with water so it wasn't showing up so dark. I

know the couple days I didn't drink as much my sticks were darker.

So what's the scoop?

in the message posted the letter from the person who went on the

Atkins cruise mentioned that he suggested everyone take 100-300 mg of it

daily.

Right now I'm not taking any vitamins or supplements at all so I'm

wondering if I should start taking something. I feel pretty well but don't

know if maybe I'd feel better with taking something.

I lose weight faster with low-fat. I don't think that this is true for

everyone.

Kate and ,

It's a complicated thing, and Dr. Atkins's book explains it much better than I can.

In a nutshell, in the absence of carbohydrates in our diets, we are able to eat more fat than while on a higher carb plan because the body burns fat less efficiently than it burns carbs. Hence, the presence of the residue (ketones) in our breath, excrement, blood, and urine. However, there is a top limit of how much energy (calories) your body needs in order to function, and if you are taking in way, way more energy through food than you need to operate your body, then the unneeded fuel will be eliminated through urine and feces.

The reason that the fat is digested and excreted rather than being stored while on low carb is that the carbohydrates are what promote and facilitate the storage of fat. At least, that is my understanding of the process from Dr. Atkins's book.

So, no/low carbs in the diet results in no fat being stored. If you manage to find the point at which you are taking in enough dietary fat to be satiated but not overfed with fat, then your body, by it's design, will look to itself for energy reserves, and that is when the body fat burning mode kicks in. What is that point? Who knows? For everyone it is going to be different, depending upon height, weight, energy needs, metabolism rates, and how much overweight we are, among other things.

The fat fast is not designed to be a quick weight loss tool. It is only to help those who are metabolically resistant get their bodies into the fat burning mode. Thinking that the fat fast is a way to get instant weight loss gratification is a common misconception among Atkins dieters, particularly if they didn't get that to that chapter in Dr. Atkins's book (LOL!).

That being said, the fat fast is a high fat, low calorie plan. 1,000 calories per day, 90% of which come from fat, and broken into five 200-calorie meals throughout the day. It isn't easy and it isn't recommended to do for more than 5 days or so. And only to help those who cannot get into ketosis by following induction meal plans.

Many on this WOE find that as they approach their goal weights, the number of calories they need for their bodies decreases, and so they must adjust the quantity of food they eat, as well as the amount of fat. Naturally, when your body is larger, it requires more energy to run it.

I hope this helps somewhat.

the question was: " wouldn't we lose weight faster by eating low fat

foods? " I've heard people say that they increased dietary fat and

lost weight better. I am not low low fat but lower fat, certainly.

When I increase fat I quit losing.

I don't really know about how that works for most people, I've always

been different than most folks losing weight.

But yes, I think you are right, you do have to burn off dietary fat

first.

You don't think what's true for everybody? That you have to burn off

dietary fat first? In the book he even says that if you're remaining

in ketosis but not losing weight, you need to cut back on fat and

calories.
