Guest guest
Bonnie, is happy but last Wed. when she called ( her choice, we put no demands on her when to call or email) she sounded a bit homesick. She would never admit it because all we heard in Aug is " I can't wait " . She emails every day and seem to enjoy my emails back daily. I am doing much much better myself. Doug never seems too bothered. This weekend was a little emotional for me and only me. was fine with it. Doug had a weekend convention ( whole other story) to attend this weekend an wanted me to go. This was the only weekend it happened. 's 19 birthday is today and we weren't home. I really did need to choose husband over daugher for the first time. and her boyfriend spent the weekend at his house. His mom cooked for them etc and they had a mini party. I had sent her a box at school and left her traditional mylar balloon and mini cake here for her. She came home to bring stuff she didn't need and get stuff she needed. She was here but we weren't. I called here this afternoon and both Doug and I talked to her. She said that her birthday was fine and she loved her box at school and balloon. Her 18th birthday was much more important to her and last year we did celebrate. Long answer to your question but yes, I am doing fine now that I am used to her being gone. After school I can do what I want and not need to pick her up or check on her etc. After years of having two kids at home one is in college the other law school. Doug and I really are learning to enjoy our new freedom. is adjusting and loves the freedom of simple things like taking water bottles and snack foods into a class and learning while she " refuels " after a dance class. Guest guest
Lynn, We just came home last night so I really don't know how I am doing. All I can say is it was very emotional for and I to leave her there. We know this is her step into her own independance and we know she wishes to finish there and live elsewhere. She has that right and we are happy for her, but it is still hard. You sound like you are doing incredibly well. I think it is because she is happy. I hope Pat stays happy. I also took a tip from you. Pat's birthday is the thirteenth so I packed a Party in a box for her-THANKS! This is her first birthday away from home and although she will be fine it might be a little hard for me. I'll get over it though.I think I will write more later. What is really improtant though is Pat is happy already. The staff at the center are wonderful and Pat is going to learn Sign now more than just a word or two here and there! She's loving that one. She wants to learn so much that I hope they are ready for her. And by the way, she is rooming with a young lady who is around her age and has already met another young lady who is also her age. This is the start of something good. Bonnie

Guest guest
Pat, I am doing well. Most of the time. I teach all day and don't think of her. Evenings are kind of hard yet. Doug works nights so he is either sleeping or gone. I just got off the phone. calls usually Tues. or Wed. Her choice we don't push. She said she was tired from her dance classes but that they are easier than the ones she took at our community arts center when she was in highschool. She likes ballet, jazz and pointe, but doesn't like modern. She said, " It's wierd. " She likes Psyc. and says Engish Composition is boring. When I talk to her I still cry when she hangs up. I do much better when she emails and I write back. I haven't seen her since Aug 22 but she may be home on the 26th for the weekend. I still do like the idea of more time of my own. Does Pat have email ? I'm glad the birthday party box worked for you. I also send a card a week. I make it so they arrive on different days so she is suprised. I stick $5 in it and she loves it. We did that for our son his freshman year too. Hang in there. CHANGE IS A GOOD THING !!! Lynn Re: Pat is going today!! Lynn, We just came home last night so I really don't know how I am doing.
