Vicki,

Just read your reply to the group. Sounds like you are really on the ball. I'm sure you will be very pleased with Dr. Walsh (Look for him on You Tube). He operated on a friend of my sister's, after my JH recommendation through another friend,. Call me if I can help. You will probably get a list of Hotels from JH, as I mentioned, I liked the Radisson at Cross Keys, away from downtown Baltimore, with a free shuttle to JH. I will pray for tonight at Adoration.

God Bless,

Larry

Dear Group

Although we still haven't met our urologist yet to discuss options.. who needs to when you have a smart group of people to help you out. 's Gleason was a 4/3=7... wish it had been different; but those are the cards we were dealt...

Sooo

Called Hopkins today; (I heard you) and have an appointment with Dr. Walsh on Sept. 30 and he will consult only and if surgery is needed (most likely may ) he recommends a Dr. Schaffer who is in the clinic that day also... We have both been reading all of the information that the group has suggested and it has all been most helpful. THANK YOU.

When we get the pathology report we will post more.

Again, thanks

Vicki,

My prayers are also with you and your husband. If your husband can have Dr. Walsh at s Hopkins do surgery, if he decides on that option, he will have one of the best. Dr. Walsh does not do robotics, but traditional surgery. He pioneered "nerve sparing" and prefers to work on guys under 65. He would have been my first choice if I could have got him. I think he is partially retired and not one of the six surgeons on the info sheets from s Hopkins. He has been on TV and You Tube.

Dear GroupMy first husband died of Medullary Thyroid Cancer and the Yahoo Group was my life line. Now my second husband (married 11 mos.) was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer today. We meet with the Dr. sometime next week. Biopsy has confirmed cancer and that is all I know. What I do know is that a Dr. in Muskegon MI is not where I want him treated. Thinking of Cleveland Clinic. What are your opinions?Vicki MacTavish

Dear Vicki,

When you meet with Dr. Walsh, or when you meet with any specialist about your husband's cancer, take a tape recorder and tape the conversation. You can get small digital recorders very inexpensively at Radio Shack or Best Buy. You and your husband likely won't remember half of what any doctor tells you even 20 minutes afterwards because this is such a stressful situation. I certainly did not. My urologist did not object, nor did the two radiation oncologists I consulted, as I explained exactly why I wanted to tape. I transcribed the conversations when I got home and it really helped with the decision. It also alerted me to questions I had forgotten to ask, and suggested new questions (mostly for clarification). Also, I had prepared a list of questions before my wife and I met with the specialists, based on the reading I had done.
