Pilot Fatigue Service - Research Study

Dear Support Group Leader

My name is Ben Langston. I am a researcher working on a joint project between The Prostate Cancer Charity and King’s College London. We would like to invite your members to participate in our research which aims to help men with prostate cancer who experience fatigue (extreme tiredness).

Men who are selected to take part will receive four telephone calls from specialist nurses who will discuss ways in which they may be able to reduce levels of fatigue. Over ten weeks the specialist nurses will support the men in making positive changes to their lifestyle using motivational interviewing techniques. These changes in lifestyle aim to help in reducing levels of fatigue, and allow the men to lead a life where fatigue has less of an impact on daily routines.

The study is open to any man who has prostate cancer and is currently experiencing fatigue.

If you know of men in your group who are currently experiencing fatigue, and who may benefit from taking part, then please ask them to contact the researcher (Ben Langston) who will provide them with further information regarding the study. (Contact details are below).

The research will begin at the end of January 2012, so it would be best to get all participants recruited before the end of January 2012.

I would be more than happy to discuss the study and give you more details by telephone if you feel this would be necessary.

Many thanks, and kind regards,

Ben.
