Guest guest
Colin hope this helps Yahoo e-groups and forums – A starter pack! By Metcalf, v Yahoo is a free flexible service that keeps people in touch wherever they are in the world. So if you have your wi-fi laptop with you on a sunny Barbados beach you can log in and see what the workers are doing, smile and go back to sun bathing! v Unfortunately we have to put up with adverts on some forums v Whilst not being perfect, for those who take individual messages most of the time it is almost immediate. Many clerks have asked questions at 4pm on council days and got half a dozen replies before their meeting that night. TO REPLY OR SEND A MESSAGE v To reply you just click – reply – delete most of the old messages but leave enough to say what it is about and send. (NB – in some forums eg the TPc - reply – will get you to the sender. Reply all - is required to go to the group.) Please try to change the title if you are on daily digest or the subject matter is changing. Try to thank people either in the title bar or preferably by a personal off group e-mail. v Alternatively if you want to start a new message you will find the group’s e-mail address at the bottom of any e-mail from the group and a link to the group website – see below about log in details. v In order to use the full range of facilities (archive, files, etc.) on Yahoo Groups you need join the Yahoo system with a user name and password. This is called a Yahoo Id. TO SIGN IN v If you go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ (copy and paste this) v In the blue box on the right is the normal sign in point for registered users – below this are the words sign up – click here! v This brings up the registration page – fill in all the boxes – one part asks you to fill in a user name – I use my name and a year. THIS IS NOT THE SLLC WEBSITE PASSWORD! v Near the bottom you have to interpret some squiggly writing v You should now get confirmation of your registration – learn or note your user name and password LINKING YOUR GROUPS TO YOUR YAHOO USER v If you then go back into Yahoo groups you would expect your groups to be listed. Odds are that they aren’t there! v Don’t despair at the bottom of the left hand side should be the words “do not see all your groups” click on this o If you don’t see this message look for the word “manage” to click on at the top left v This gives the option of adding your normal e-mail addresses v WARNING – Yahoo doesn’t like addresses that start admin@ or info@ etc. v By adding your normal e-mail addresses you can link the groups that you have signed into and they should appear on your group listings LOGGING IN AND USING SOME OF THE FACILITIES v Access the groups file by clicking on the website link near the bottom of a message or go to http://groups.yahoo.com/. Sign in with your Yahoo user name and password (NOT YOUR SLCC WEBSITE PASSWORD) then:- v Click on a group v On the left the most useful click ons are:- o Files – to view uploaded files or share them with the group o Messages – you can look at all the old messages, do a search for subjects you are interested in, click on upthread to see the previous messages with the same title v Going away from your computer for a few days or want to change your group e-mail frequency. o On the next to the top line is your Yahoo user, normal e-mail, then a click on edit membership o Here you can select various options – eg daily digest, or no email – don’t forget to save changes (at the bottom) o On your return from holiday – sign in to Yahoo groups and set your e-mail reception to your normal settings You can also get your e-group messages to go into a folder – In Outlook Express go to Tools, message rules, mail and set up a rule for your mail Change address Scroll down to the bottom of this message or any other group message. click on (blue writing) change settings via web enter your YAHOO user name and password not SLCC one you should be in the edit membership page, if not click edit membership near top of page, under advert The e-mail address you were using is listed with a green dot next to it. Underneath click add new e-mail address, add the address, don't forget to save Return to the edit membership screen and click the button next to the new address, save changes - hey presto done cjhange of email address I have recently changed my email address to: colin@... It used to be : colin@... on the Prostate Cancer Support Group site. Would you please amend your records. I have recently also got cstott22@... .which should I use for what?? on your site.
