Hi Helen,

I have nausea every time I put anything into my mouth. I take a Zofran after

I eat anything.

Nausea is my constant companion and I throw up usually when I try to ingest

anything. I, like most of you, would take the pain any day over vomiting!

Hi Andre', and all,

No kidding! I can't believe how horrible that nauseated feeling can be. That

nausea can put me down faster than any of even the worst pain I have ever had.

Hi All,

The best prescription anti-nausea pill is Zofran. It is exorbitant in price,

but is covered by most insurance companies. Phenergan makes me unproductively

drowsy. Compazine doesn't work well for me, and also makes me drowsy.

Other than prescription medications, Ginger is second best. I have it in tea

form as well as herbal capsules. It works quite well.

The key to most ailments is to stay ahead of them rather than chase them. I

take a Zofran with each meal. I used to drink Ginger tea before each meal,

but haven't needed to recently.

Someone, I think Poncho, once wrote in about piching the right earlobe. If done

early in an episode of nausea, it will help for a brief time. You have my

sympathy; I hate nausea even worse than pain.

Hope you feel better soon.

Raw ginger root, cut a slice the size of a dime and hold it between your

cheek and teeth/gum. Relief in under 15 minutes.

No judging here!!! We all do what we have to do. I have smoked in the

past-strickly for pleasure then, and I can see where this could be an aid for

such problems. There is a gal in our group that was actually prescribed

marijuanna patches.....so it is obvious that it can be of some help. Not to

mention what it does for depression!!! LOL Enjoy my friend.........and if

it helps you then more power to ya!!!!!

Hugs,

ps I believe that it was your website that I visited once and if so, I was

very impressed!! I also have a house full of pets. Four dogs and a cat.

They are my life!! A big handful.........but worth it! I have an

Austrailian Shepherd named Petie, an Eurasier (half Chow Chow/half Wolf

Spitz) named Buddy, a Basenji named Punkin, and a Maltese named Harley(LOL)

He is about 4 lbs sopping wet and when my hubby got him from a friend, his

name was " Wiggles " . He went to the other end of the spectrum and renamed him

Harley coz he couldn't see himself hanging out the back door yelling for

" Wiggles " !!!!! Too funny!! My kitty's name is Buster and he is a Maine

Coon. They are my babies! We don't have any (human) kids and I don't think

we would have the time!!!!! LOL

Hello all

Saw this post on nausea and kinda debated writing this rather controversial subject. However, here I go....

Nausea has been the bane of my existence. It has been my nemesis. It caused me to quit eating for more than a few months back in 99, to the point the doctors diagnosed me with anorexia nervosa, because "no one in their right mind would just quit eating". I did not care. I wasn't eating. I was throwing up so much I wore the enamel off my teeth. They could not understand why I didn't/wouldn't eat. Only someone who has experienced having chronic nausea and/or vomiting can understand the hell it causes, and how it can affect you to the point you just don't/can't eat anymore. Doctors don't get it. Even though pancreatitis is known to cause nausea, often severe. They think that nothing could be so bad we would quit eating, and would RATHER be stuck with needles and be fed through catheters than have any morsel of food pass our lips and increase this horrible sensation. Well, I wish they could visit my, and I'm sure a few people here's life, and become acquantices with the nausea demon.

When I did eat I just vomited it back up. At one point my stomach wouldn't even accept fluids. My enzymes were out of control. The pain was severe, which didn't exactly help stimulate my appetite any.

From then on it has been a constant battle. Some days are good, some days are horrible, but almost always, I struggle with nausea. It has become one of the few constants in my life.

I am a frequent visitor to the ER for dehydration. My veins have gotten so scarred from the many IV's and TPN, that if they have to stick me less than 5 times I'm impressed. But I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

I have tried everything for nausea. To top everything off, I have a horrible reaction called acute dystonia to most medications that are used for nausea. It's a condition in which all your muscles go into spasms, including your airway. I remember with one med, I spent 5 hours with my muscles in such bad spasm only the back of my head and heels touched the bed. Even my eyeballs were rolled up into my head. Talk about a scene from the exorcist. They were about to paralyze me, when finally the IV Benadryl and a med called cogentin kicked in, and my muscles released a bit.

Boy was I sore the next day! And for 18 more hours I still had to have a hard oral airway shoved down my throat because my airway muscles kept going into spasms and blocking my throat off. That was a treat, let me tell you.

This is a little known reaction to drugs called neuroleptics, or phenothiazines which are used for both nausea and as major tranquilizers. Such drugs include reglan, stemetil, phenergan, thorazine, haldol etc. It's fairly rare, but can also result in a long term type of this condition called tardive dyskenisia, where certain muscle groups randomly go into spasms. I know one girl through the internet who was given reglan IV, for food poisoning, and developed Tardive dyskenisia, She was told the symptoms she was having from this caused by *hysteria* by doctors, and given more of these types drugs as sedatives to treat the *hysteria*! Subsequently, she now has such severe muscle spasms she's wheelchair bound. She's 23.

Anyhow, I'm not saying don't use these drugs, and I'm not trying to scare the beejebers out of anyone. I'm just saying be careful, be on the watch for any unusual muscle movements.

Mine started with my eyebrows shooting to my hairline and my mouth going into a perpetual smile/grimace-depending how you looked at it. I had this look of permanent surprise...couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong with me till we went to the ER. I've had this reaction 5 times, despite doctors knowing that drugs of this type caused this kind of reaction in me. All 5 times I spent a few days in the ICU.

Anyhow, leading up to the point of my story. I guess you could say I have since gone natural. I smoke cannabis to get rid of my severe nausea. Yup, plain old marijuana.

Before anyone starts judging me, I want to say that I have never, ever smoked it, or anything else, including cigarettes, in my life before this. It's not something I do for pleasure, but something I have to do. And it has worked.

I started actually only a few days ago, when I was again very sick, not eating , vomiting....of course all because nausea. My fiancée (who doesn't even drink alcohol) by chance found out a girl at work uses it....not because of nausea....but anyways. He got to talking to her about my problems, and she gave him some to let me try.

We had watched a program a while back about how people undergoing chemotherapy and people dying of AIDS found it was the only thing out of all the pharmacopia used on them that had really made a difference.

My fiancée says it makes me "weirder than usual" but I don't feel any huge change, except (thank God, Buddha, Allah, Mohammed, and anyone else I'm forgetting) the nausea subsides. And for that I am thankful,(can you tell?) and will take any risks that go along with owning/taking this drug. I haven't had a nausea free moment since April, especially if I tried to eat anything beyond toast.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating the use of the stuff. That's a very personal decision, that one has to weigh carefully. I am just relating my own experiences, and what work for me. Believe me, as a 22 year old who was brought up in a military home, was a model honor roll teen (until medical problems forced me to leave school in grade 11) never drank before age 19 (the legal limit here in Canada) and only drank socially before I stopped completely when my diagnosis was made, and as I said never so much as smoked cigarettes, this wasn't an easy, carefree, dive-headfirst-with-my-eyes-closed- into-it decision.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share my story with you. I hope that no one will judge me by this....I just wanted to be honest about what works for me, and my experiences.

Shana, I'm sorry you have had so much trouble, and I appreciate your

frankness and forwardness, I've posted a couple of remedies for nausea in the

past that might also be of help. But I repost them knowing that you and only

you know and feel the problem and how everything affects you. These are only

suggestions and I only wish the best for you. A slice of raw ginger,(someone

else posted candied ginger as well which is raw ginger soaked with raw sugar)

held between the cheek and gum. Also pinching the right earlobe can help.

Another accupressure point in on the left wrist about an inch above the small

bone on the inside of the wrist, less obtrusive than the earlobe but I find

it also less effective for me. Nausea is an increase in the " bad " fleeing

with Panc. it can almost be like another total separate disease. I post one

other remedy at the risk of being the laughing stock of this board, placing

your tummy against the cloths washer during the spin cycle, the regular fast

vibrations seem to comfort an ill stomach, God only knows why.

Best wishes,

Poncho

Dear Shana,

I just wanted to say welcome to the group I am new to the group, but as

for me I don't judge you or anyone in the group, I am lucky not to have a

reaction to the nausea drugs they help me for some time I to hate that

feeling sometimes think it is worse then the pain. I don't know if there will

come a day when they don't work for me but I had also heard that that works

for it too I have never ever tryed it so I don't know what the affacts of it

is but hey I say if it works and isn't harming you then do what works .. good

luck and may you have a pain free day

Shana, an derivitive of marijuana named Marinol is available & often prescribed

for people with persistent nausea. I don't know if it's as effective as

marijuana, but it's legal & might be worth a try.

I am 7 weeks out today and the nausea and vomiting are keeping me

housebound. ON the bright side I have lost 55 lbs but would gain it

back in a heartbeat if I could get out of the house and GO. Has

anyone else on here experienced the bouts of dry heaves and vomiting

like this for so long? Will it EVER end????? I would NEVER in a

million years do this surgery over agan.

Thanks!

Hi Tammy

I am so sorry for what you are going through. What are you eating that keeps

you so nauseous? I mean can you drink water and hold it down? What about

half water half apple juice? What kind of solids are you eating if you are up

to that stage? Have you seen your doctor did he do an endoscopic exam of your

system to rule out any blockages?

Please take care and you are in my prayers to feel better:)
