Guest guest
Hi, Faye I'm due for resurfacing in Belgium on July 2, so cannot yet speak from experience about the aftermath of the surgery. You should be aware that if you leave it too long there will be so much deterioration that you will no longer be a candidate for resurfacing. Make sure you see a surgeon who does resurfacing as well as replacement, otherwise the advice is sure to be one-sided. Marie
Guest guest
Hi Faye I don't think for 1 minute that you'll find anyone telling you anything other than get it done as soon as you can. The pain goes and the enjoyment of dancing and golf will return fairly quickly. There is a good list of surgeons in the UK on the followiing site:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/surfacehippy/files/ -select UK surgeons and then select UK Hip Resurfacing Consultants Doc. - over 70 surgeons doing hip resurfacing incuding ones in the Wirral, Burnley, Stoke and Warrington areas. I mention the files sub directory as a starting point because the other subjects may be of use. Regards Rog. New member and other members: thanks for the welcome and all the back posts I have spent ages in reading. I am a 46 year old female and have osteo arthritis in both hips but the right gives me most pain. The xray show nearly 3/4 inch bone on bone but i am still fairly active but have used a stick for the last 3 yrs and get burning pains most nights which is worse in the winter. I used to like dancing and golf and havent enjoyed them for years and feel like i'm missing out on some quality years and obviously my partner suffers from my restraints. I have put off having a traditional replacement as I know these aren't successful long term and wondered what the groups thoughts are about having a resurfacing? Is it better to live with the devil I know or risk getting it done? Can anyone recommend a consultant from around the N. West of England area as I live at Liverepool Faye _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
Guest guest
Hi Faye I'm also in Liverpool and had my BHR nearly 2 years ago. I actually went to Mr Treacy in Birmingham but we have an 'A' list surgeon here ... Simon Journeaux. He works from Lourdes and The Murrayfield on the Wirral. I believe he is possibly going to Australia but I don't know when. I have spoken to a doctor whose hip he did at least 3 years ago and she was delighted with him. She wanted to know about Mr Treacy becuase she wasn't sure if Mr Journeaux would be around to do her second hip. I didn't go to him becuase I didn't like his bedside manner ... think he was absent on the day of that lecture!!!!! ... but he is a first rate surgeon according to Mr Treacy. Good luck Arlene
Guest guest
Another Orstralian ....... g'day Edith, I'm in Orange NSW and Dr Len Walter is doing my BHR at the Mater Hospital in Sydney this coming Wednesday. After stopping the Celebrex 10 days ago, I now realise just how good they were. The pain I have been having over the last 2 days has been quite severe and the sooner Wednesday comes the better. Hopefully I will be able to offer some help and advice to others after I have been repaired. Guest guest
Mick - I went off of Vioxx about ten days ago. I had the same pain you experienced for about the first five days, it gradually lessened. The third day was the worse pain I have ever had in my hips and legs. I was also amazed at how much pain the Vioxx masked. I'm now five days away from a BHR with Dr. De Smet. Guest guest
Hello, I am new to this group. I had my open RNY on 8/7/03. On 8/21 I had lost 22 pounds. I am feeling quite well, which surprises me. I just have one area to the right of my incision that hurts sometimes. My only other issue, I'm already tired of pureed food!! Oh, well. Thanks for listening. Debbie

Candi Hi Candi Sorry I a not from Illinois but I want to offer my congratulations on being approved and being bumped up on your surgery date. Monday is in just a few hours that really will fly by. I had the lap RNY on 8/25/03 and it was without any complications and I am doing fine and you will too. It is so amazing and the journey is truly incredible. So get to packing and keep those nerves steady as she goes You will be a big loser too very soon Lori Anne Lap RNY 8/25/03 274/259/
Guest guest
Candi, Good luck on your surgery. Here's wishing you a safe and happy journey to the losers' side. We've all been through the anxiety and you will be just fine! Where is Breese exactly? I used to live in ville if you know where that is. I loved it there. 432/370/170 Lap RNY 6/20/03 NEw Member My name is Candi. I live in Breese, Illinois (deep in the heart of corn country!!). Not too far from St. Louis, Missouri. I originally talked to my doctor 16 months ago about the surgery. It took over a year just to get an appointment for the evaluation. I did that back in June of this year. The hospital just called me last week to say my insurance approved me and scheduled me for the 29th of September. Then yesterday I got A call from the Hospital and someone who was supposed to have surgery this Monday got sick and they asked if I would be willing to take their place. So day after tomorrow I will be having my surgery. Funny thing is I am not nervous. I am doing the RNY/LAP. But suddenly I felt this need to talk to others who are going through it. Any southern Illinois people on this list who have had or are soon to have their surgery? Candi
