Guest guest
Hi , I am going to give you the short answer today........I'm feeling under the weather as it were............we have had record heat and I seemed to have gotten sinus infection..........yuk!! So, I am running a fever and I don't think very well when that is going on. Later, when I am feeling better I will bombard you with info!! Lucky you!! :-) The food and drug colorings are called tartrazines, the preservatives are benzoates and aminobenzoic acid and Butylate hydroxytoluene (BHT), found in chewing gum, potato chips, peanuts, and cake mix. Finally there is nutrasweet which is aspartame..........all have been known to cause urticaria and all fall into the group of what is termed excitotoxins. I would recommend the book, Excitotoxins : The Taste That Kills -- L. Blaylock, MD ; he is a neurologist. It is available at www.amazon.com I have heard this gentleman speak on this subject..........talk about scary. My own personal experience with nutrasweet was enoguh to make me a believer. These are quite different from salicylates which are natural occurring in most fruits and vegetables to lesser or greater extent. The salicylates are also in many cleaning and household products as well as in aspirin and NSAID's. Many people who are salicylate sensative can have Sal products if they don't overload in one day. I have posted one source you can check about salicylates.......Barbara from Oz has posted some info recently.......maybe someone can pull that back up for you. Here is a site you can check out and when I am feeling better I'll send you others. http://public.csusm.edu/public/guests/nancym/SalIndex.htm You need to keep your son on the H1's perhaps H2's until you reach an understanding of what he is reacting to.......then you can reduce meds slowly over time. You don't want to be boucing back and forth on his diet.............what he cannot tolerate now, maybe he can tolerate when he is much older. My sister had children who were extremely reactive to all fruits and vegetables and milk products. They lived on lamb and banana the first 5 years of their life. It's a very looooooooooooong story. One kid also lived at UCSF for about a year. They were thought to be very unusal, today we know that they were salicylate sensative as well as they had milk allergies. Anyway they are much older and except for some fruits, they can eat anything. So don't worry if his diet has to be very restrictive for now.
