I was resurfaced 4/11/02 Dr. Mont and I never had drainage once I left the

hospital and the tape the hospital gave me was great I changed the bandage

daily and it was dry. The home nurse had me to leave the bandage off 5 days

after being home, she thought 52 staples was alittle over kill on a 7 "

incision. Must have been a new staple gun he was playing with that day.

That is my memory, exactly. That tape gave me the nastiest rash. I'm now

nearly 10 weeks post op w / Mont, but I still have a couple of red dots where

the rash was worst! If you haven't stopped draining yet, by day 12 or 13 your

incision should have magically closed up... like turning off a faucet.

A word of caution to future hippies:

I'm 10 days post-op with a C+ L hip from Dr Etiene (Baltimore) and

everything has been relatively simple and trauma-free. Except for

the bandage thing.

After surgery, your " zipper " will continue to drain, and someone

should help you change the bandage. I had at least 10 people here

over the weekend, and every one of the cowards would RUN when it was

time to remove the old bandage - the Micropore tape that the hospital

sends home with you will weld itself to your butt. It will actually

tear small pieces of your flesh from your body. The most pain I've

had to endure has been removing the dread bandage!!

Fortunately, one of my daughters is an EMT/former sports team manager

and she got a roll of & " Sports Tape " from our local

pharmacy - WHEW! It comes off much easier and kinder.. hopefully my

backside will stop looking like a relief-map of the moon......

Deb--Its probably all that dancing that loosened your skin under that

tape;) I had no trouble with the tape they sent me hope with but the

tape in the hospital left a " shadow " where it irritated my skin.

I see that Tammy had 52 staples in a 7 " incision I counted 32 on my

7.5 " at the after hours clinic the Dr remarked while removing them

(he paused several times to admire)what a neatly closed wound I had.

I had two places where I had minor drainage (drain tube hole and one

dot along the incision)

Gotta go to work now. Counting on going up to on this weekend

turkey hunting. Keep up the good work.

I'm off to get my staples out today - will count...I sure have a

bunch of 'em but they're kinda cute My daughter actually took a

(discreet) picture of it? The incision looks nice and healthy - the

drainage has always been clear. And I had told Dr Etiene that

anything shorter than armpit-to-knee was perfectly acceptable!

Maybe some of us have a " body chemistry " that turns tape into

superglue????

My surgeon gave me hidden stiches under the skin so thet nothing could be seen

and there were no stiches to take out after the op.

This sounds a lot better and far less painful than ordinary stiches and " clips " .

Why can't all surgeons do them.

C. here.

I am 10 days PO - came home on Friday (day 7) - my wound is having what

seems to be an allergic reaction to the staples (36 on a 12 " cut - in the UK

there are 36 staples in the gun so they just fire away until it stops - or so

they said) . At each staple, I am getting little puss balls under the skin

which break the skin occationally. Mr. Treacy has brought forward my staple

removal from Friday to tomorrow (Wednesday - day 11) as a result.

Strange, here in UK they don't like that we change our dressing very often.

They believe the less contact the better. My dressing has been changed twice

in hospital and just today (as a result of the reaction).

I had the district nurse come out to my home to inspect it yesterday but she

wouldn't take off the bandage as she said it looked dry. Today the hospital

called her back since I had complained about the irritation and she finally

relentented and changed the dressing all the time insisting that it was

normal to have this kind of irritation.

She'll be back tomorrow to remove the staples... be glad to get them out of

my skin but I hope she can handle it !

Otherwise doing remarkably well. The whole deal has been really smooth. I

have already been walking arround the park - from day 8 - and have no problem

going up my three flights of stairs... each day is better then the last...
