Guest guest
.... that whilist caring for our known afflictions, it is important to beware of the other things that can catch us out unexpectedly. This week we have had lots of snow and ice in the UK. Leaving pavements quite icy, so we were about to finish business in our local town (Selby) and I went to collect my car from the car park. Half with the intention of picking Maureen up in by a supermarket. Going my merry way I remember putting out my foot and slipping, immediately hitting my head on the pavement. I remember only bits of the next few minutes, though I had been taken to sit in a clothes shop, I must have dialled my wife on my mobile phone, someone had rung for an ambulance, at which point my memory returned . Fortunately my woolly hat had saved my had from cuts and grazes, the paramedic decided though that I needed to be checked at York Hospital. I was discharged from Accident and Emergency about 3 hours later, taxi service provided by my youngest daughter and her husband, and Maureen driving the car home, when we got back to Selby. She was issued with a leaflet, to watch for symptoms that may develop, it seems so far that all I will be left with is a sore head, but it could so easily have been adifferent story. The paramedic acts at rugby games and he said it was a typical concussion caused by the kind of clashes in that game. So at 64 I've taken up skating in Gowthorpe, Selby, with no great success.!
