Guest guest
Hi susan, Vioxx helped to take away the pain! forthat it worked well. but i began to have stomach problems. remember i have had chronic problems with my stomach for many years. I started with naseau . for awhile maalox and compazine helped. but it got to thepoint that i started vomiting, and i wa drinking bottles of maalox and eating compaxine like candy. and i still was vomiting. then at times i even had the dry heaves. the doctor asked why i had waited so long to tell him, unil I told him i had called repeatedly and when he looked at the records he found that i started calling about this last november. so he ordered bloodrk and a stool culture. the stool culture came back ositive for blood , so I went to a gi specialist. he repeated the stool cultures after i had been off vioxx for a week or twol and theycame back negative thank god. so it stopped. I am so grateful. I am not trying to scare anyone. but if you are on vioxx, please watch for signs of stomach upset. my doctor said that at a medical convention in harvard a lot of doctors were complaining that their patiots were develpingstomach bleeds. but of course the drug comopanies are denying any fault. this is a new drug and they are still learning about it love denise
Guest guest
I was told that Vioxx had to be used every day or it did not work the way it is made to. My brain fog won't let me think of the right words now. but anyway, it has to be taken daily and kept in your system as a sort of preventative. I was told it was like a prevent a pain pill. I took it daily for 2 months though and it didn't do a thing for me. Some people swear by it. This would explain why my colon doctor had told me to take it every day regardless of whether the hernias were hurting me or not. It did take away the pain I had in my spin the other day. Thanks Darcy
Guest guest
Hi Vioxx (rofecoxib) was the only anti-inflammatory that I could tolerate prior to my surgery. It is a selectice COX 2 (cyclo-oxygenase 2) inhibitor and is therefore much gentler on the git. I found it relatively effective although with prologed use sometimes got muscle cramps with it. Its other reported side effects include things such as sleep disturbance and depression - if these happened they were no worse than the pain caused and so I didn't notice them, wieght gain, chest pain, mouth ulcers and eczema - none of which I had. - It does have some contra-indications but I presume the doc checked these out with you prior to starting you on it. Sue vioxx hi, My doc has started me on a drug called Vioxx to ease the pain in my hip whilst I am waiting for my surgery. Has anyone had any experience with this drug, i.e is it very effective and are there any bad side effects. Any advice will be useful. Guest guest
Hello , I tried Vioxx and it didn't do me much good if any. It actually made my heart race which was why I stopped using it after 3 weeks. I have found Celebrex to work quite well however and have had no side effects. Guest guest
Hi there My hubby was put on Vioxx as a gentler anti-inflammatory as he had a history with ulcers, although it was great on the pain - it caused stomach bleeds even given as suppository rather than orally. Please be careful as my Dad also had this drug and it caused a major stomach bleed with nearly disastrous outcomes. Any signs of anything out of the ordinary - stop taking and consult doctor. Having said all that I hope it is effective and safe for you, as it is certainly excellent pain relief and for the short time my hubby took it was a lot better as far as pain was concerned. Good luck Sarajane vioxx > > > hi, > > My doc has started me on a drug called Vioxx to ease the pain in my > hip whilst I am waiting for my surgery. Guest guest
I have been on Vioxx for one month and it's been very effective. I notice the pain coming on if I am late taking the drug. Also, I have had no side effects at all. Prior to Vioxx, I used Tylenol Arthritis tablets which did work alittle. The only bad thing about Vioxx, is that my insurance would not cover it because I am not 60 years old!!! Just turn 40:( My family doctor gave me a 3 month supply and the ortho gave me a month supply, so I am set for awhile. Guest guest
, Almost all pain-killers (NSAIDs) cause harm to the gut lining, with potentially serious bleeding problems. This is because they inhibit both cox-1 and cox-2 enzymes, which protect the gut. The newer ones: Vioxx (as Sue mentioned) and Celebrex inhibit only cox-2, and hence are gentler (thought not completely harmless) on the gut lining. Vioxx has potentially serious blood pressure problems. I think it also causes fluid retention. Please take time to go through all possible side effects (you can find them somewhere on the web). Now for the good part , i have been using it for more than a year. It has worked great for me, and no problems till now. take care. > hi, > > My doc has started me on a drug called Vioxx to ease the pain in my > hip whilst I am waiting for my surgery. Guest guest
Hello , I am pre-op as well and my OS has had me try a number of pain and anti-inflammatory medications, including Vioxx and Celebrex. Neither of these drugs provided any significant relief for me. What little relief they did provide was also contingent on not missing a dosage as well which I found difficult to follow (I hate taking medication of any kind). The only side-effect that I noticed was that it made me slightly light-headed occasionally. Mike vioxx hi, My doc has started me on a drug called Vioxx to ease the pain in my hip whilst I am waiting for my surgery. Guest guest
I took Vioxx for about 5 months and had no side effects - it was effective enough and I could take it right up until the day before my surgery. > hi, > > My doc has started me on a drug called Vioxx to ease the pain in my > hip whilst I am waiting for my surgery.
